Oops too much champers, link did not work correctly.

http://www.nzpost.co.nz/Cultures/en-NZ/Personal/SpecialSendingOccasions/

try that one...

New Zealand Post will not be offering the $1 Christmas Card special this year, however from October 4th you can purchase a booklet of 10 $1.50 Stamps and only pay for 9. The booklet also contains mailing dates and the Air or Economy stickers you'll need when sending your item overseas. This offer is available while stocks last.
$1.50 sends International Air cards to Australia and the South Pacific and International Economy cards to all other countries.

Funny, I just asked about Christmas deadlines at the postal annex today...if you are in the US and want to get the cheap rate to NZ by Christmas, you have to send by Oct 30th. This is just from the States to NZ though, I don't know about the opposite or to/from the UK.

Kev 'Mr scrooge' himself - has already grumbled because I've bought the 'special' cards for parents, brother, sister and really good friends, so i can leave them here - even bought and wrapped a couple of xmas pressies too!!! :p But once we are in NZ think I'll be a bit more 'humbug' and be very selective about who I send cards to in the uk!!

you are so very organised!!!

in fact we're having some trouble with this one at the moment. We're visiting both sets of parents before we leave and i'd like to give them xmas presents then. BUT we don't really want them to give us xmas presents as they don't always think these sorts of things through all that well :roll and are likely to give us something either huge or very heavy that we then somehow have to get on the plane!

I know just where you are coming from - It is our eldest's birthday the day AFTER the container goes!!!!!!!! We have very cheekily asked people to give him money (we have bought him a couple of bits and pieces to open and we're giving him money too!) then he can change it into dollars and buy things when we get there before all the rest of the stuff arrives in the container. Kev's mum is really organised she has given us money for christmas for the 5 of us, Kev's birthday card & money (xmas day!), and Emerson's birthday card and money for January!!!!!

We have discussed presents and said to family just put money into the account we will be leaving open for the boys, let us know how much and then we will convert it to dollars, give the boys the money or buy them something they want, and then we can transfer a lump across when it builds up, rather than sending dribs and drabs, we've said don't bother trying to buy stuff and posting it too expensive.

Difficult things to discuss but it needs sorting really so everyone knows where they stand! :nice1

I did the same Marcia...and your right about sending stuff when you get here, I look at weight and size - I got stung by this the other day....

they go by size too, so I sent one piece of paper in an a5 envelope - thought yep thats 45c - NO thats just for the normal size envelopes, the larger the depth the more you pay...so for A4 envelope its over a dollar :no

Rachels birthday is in Nov, and I have bought something small & light but it will still cost me $12 to send

Cheers

Kat..... and our parents are doing the same with our pressies - straight into the Nation wide, and into our hands via an ATM - SORTED! :clap

I have to say that I am very disorganised and am always rushing to the post shop on the final posting day to get all my cards and packages sent off...
However, I find internet shopping a godsend - it means I can buy my nieces and nephews presents easily on my credit card and have them wrapped and delivered to them directly. So much easier! Amazon, Cd-Wow and various others all feel the force of my plastic in the run-up to the festive season.

Me too. I miss all the crowds and can shop from the comfort of my chair whilst sipping a glass of festive nog. :clap

I think it may be two hands for us this year, after last years $150+ bill for postage  , but we did have change of address/baby announcement etc going out all at the same time, so EVERYONE had to get a card... :roll

We have also banished adult pressies, we dont want anything, and neither do they, so it would a fruitless exercise! Kids only.:nice1

The postie I go to said that the economy is only 6% cheaper than Airmail - and it consists of them sticking your parcels in a barrel - when its full it goes by airmail!
r
so it may go faster or slower depending on how much mail they send out at that post shop

I have a few more to get, but cant find nice-small light gifts! - so I think I will have to go shopping after work on Friday!

I have spent a good chunk of the afternoon up to my elbows in xmas paper and sellotape :roll

Oh dear Marie, I thought my $100 postal bill was bad...

Ah well good job it is once a year, and you got away without posting some too, as they are coming to collect!

What Kat said about the economy postage works, cos my mum and dad got their parcel in 6 days, which is how long normal air mail takes.. glad I did it early though, reckon I saved a total of $40 by getting ahead of the game... but the others have not arrived yet... so its just your luck I guess.

I can't believe it - I sent my pressies by 'surface mail' a couple of days before the cut-off date in November for 'surface mail' to guarantee delivery before Xmas (saved about $20 by doing it) and 5 days later they arrive in the UK & everyone thinks I'm bonkers sending pressies so early!! Bet that'll never happen again! Someone probably put it in the airmail bag by accident!

Ooh for anyone who wants (probably too late now for this year) to save money on Xmas cards & postage - we sent Xmas postcards overseas this year & saved $0.50 per card on postage! Great website that sells them v. cheap I think I paid about $30 for 50 cards including delivery! - Vistaprint where you can personalise the card with your own pic on it & put in your own text - saves a heck of a lot of writing as well! (only you have to send the card without the envelope for it to qualify for the post-card rate.) Well you have to send a card of you/your kids in the sunshine when everyone receiving it is in the middle of winter!! ;)
