Hi, all. Please can you help with this? Someone in the UK might have to transfer a small (three-figure) amount of UK pounds to NZ$, some time in the next couple of months. What is the easiest and/or cheapest way to do this for this kind of amount? Am open to any suggestions. Many thanks.

Do you have a cash card for the account? If so wander down to ATM, sorted!

Other option is request account to be closed, if thats what you want, and get them to send you a closure cheque, you can then pay it into your bank over here, but it takes 21 days to clear (and thats working days).

Thats how I would do it, but there are these various transfer companies around that deal with smaller amounts too, but never used one.

Could they send you a cheque for the amount and get you to pay it into thier account here?

I know you dont get a great rate doing it that way - but it shoudl be possible, and it gets round having to transfer larger sums.

Gotta agree with the above. We tried to give our landlord a cheque for $700 written on our UK chequebook, but he said it would take 21 working days for him to clear it, so then we used the card to withdraw it from an ATM. My UK bank charged us £1.50 overseas fee, and gave us a reasonable rate. Dont forget that if you have an ATM withdrawl limit of say £300 per day, THAT IS UK TIME, so in NZ you can withdraw up your limit before 12 midday then start again at 12:01 (we had to when we bought our car)
Since then we have used Transferz (search for this on other threads for info) who give a good rate and charge a flat fee of £7. You can be anywhere on the globe when you want to use them as its an internet/phone job. ;)

Hi Matt,

We do the same - ATM for amounts up to $2000 from UK, but not sure if the person has a UK account - otherwise, Ian moves money round from UK, US, Aus & NZ via Paypal. He does it from his own a/cs to himself & also from us to his sister's account in Aus - works well & we don't have to faff around paying loads of bank charges to send them birthday & Xmas money. Feel free to PM if you've got any more questions on it & I'll get Ian to send you a message back.

Cheers
