Hi All

Are there any good travel tips for the mad dash we are making soon.
Departing Manchester to London to Hong Kong to Auckland to Whakatane!!
We have never done this type of trip before.
There is no stop over, just an hour in HK...... We have a week in Bay area then, back to the UK 5 days later.
Does the jet lag get you going or coming home?

Come on Alonso!

A grand prix fan then?? Our boys are named after Mclaren world champs - Ayrton, mika and Emerson.

What time will you be landing in AKl??
We landed at midnight - straight to bed, get up 8 o'clockish in morning despite feeling shattered still. couple of early nights and we were fine. Coming home we landed at 6.00am - bad timing!! We went to bed till 12.00 then got up feeling grotty took a couple of weeks to get back to 'normal'. For us the coming home was the worst for the jet lag.

My advice try and adjust to whatever time-zone you are in - so if you land daytime try and stay up as long as possible before sleep.

good luck and enjoy the trip!

Have you seen this? It gives tips on avoiding jet lag:

My tips:

On such a short trip, you might be able to white-knuckle it - not really getting over your jetlag but managing to be awake the hours the locals are, by sheer willpower.

Try to be in really good shape before you fly. I know it's always a heinous rush, but try, try, try to get in some good nights' sleeps before you leave. Take vitamins, eat lots of healthy food. You want your immune system to be in top shape.

On the plane, try to nap as much as possible. Take eye patches, blow-up neck-pillows, put your feet up on something (if you are short).

There are various homeopathic/natural remedies you can get for jet lag but I
haven't tried any. You might find they have real or placebo benefit.

When you arrive, get a lot of sunshine. Go for walks along the beach etc to fool your body into adjusting.

Have a great trip!
