Having our container delivered tomorrow here in NZ with all our stuff from the UK.
Just wondered if anyone actually tipped the peops unpacking the stuff, we did in the UK, they worked so hard, but tipping is just not the norm over here.
Thanks in advance.

I didn't tip them, but I fed and watered them regularly! :p

We gave them some 'beer money' at the end as they had worked incredibly hard. Their faces lit up and were really thankful, it was obvious that they don't get tipped too often.

Thanks for such quick replies.
We supplied the guys in the UK with tea and biscuits just about every hr! and tipped but they did wk hard.
Maybe we'll give them a few dollars if they do a good job then!

i read somewhere that although tipping in nz is not "the norm", tipping exceptional service is always appreciated.
lucky you getting your container tomorrow - we should be able to take delivery of ours in 4-5 weeks when we move into the house. can't even remember what's in the container now tho' - haven't seen it since the beginning of august!!

We didn't tip the guys who first brought our container. They seemed like they were expecting a tip and each kept coming up to the door to say they were leaving at the end. But NZ Vanlines aka Worldwide Movers were rude, and we weren't happy.
We tipped the domestic movers - King Transport in Kapiti - when we shifted recently, because they were great. They really seemed to appreciate it. Totally different experience.
