Hello to all in forum land! My husband and I will be moving to New Zealand in the new year with his job transfer. Well.... more like we called the company and begged and promised first borns for something in Austrailia or New Zealand. They kindly obliged with a position in New Plymouth.

We currently live in Aberdeenshire Scotland and although it is absolutley lovely I will be happy to leave behind the cold, dark and wet days expierenced next to the North Sea.

We are both huge fans of forums, I am a photography weirdo and my husband is a Land Rover freak, so we know forums can be the most helpful tool out there. Real people discussing real expieriences.

So there is no doubt we will be harrassing everyone here for everybit of knowledge possible and thank you in advance for your troubles.

Cheers,

Melissa and Hugo

Hello and welcome to a great big rollercoaster ride - you'll never have ridden one like it!! :D

The search facility is a great tool, loads of useful information appears on old threads there, but if you can't find the answer ask away!!

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum fish. We too lived in Aberdeenshire for a few years.

I had to smile at your comments about wanting to move away from the cold, wet weather ......... NZ at the moment (although in mid/late spring) is experiencing cold, wet wet wet, weather. It's grey and 'dreich'.

New Plymouth is lovely - you'll like it there. You'll find all the answers you need on this forum, it's a great community.

Hope the next year goes well and that'll you'll be joining us in NZ soon. All the best.

Diny

Thanks for the quick responses! Knew we came to the right place.

I think the biggest bonus for moving away over there is that despite some wet and cold days...the sun will shine and summer will come!!!!

Thanks everyone.

'dreich' - that's a good scottish word! My mother used to use it all the time - no-one else used to know what it meant - she said it meant really miserable and grey!

Welcome to the forum - you're right - the weather can change v quickly here. It's miserable today, but the sun's back tomorrow - yippee!

Hi there,

Have to agree with Diny on this one, wet wet wet not stopped raining here in Hawkes Bay since yesterday. :( Have to add though when the sun shines it shines, last week was very warm, and the forecast for the coming week looks very promising :clap
Good luck, hope you enjoy the rollar coaster ride :laugh

Wow! A big thank you for all the replies and the welcome, it's very nice to find such a friendly crowd.
I'd be lucky enough to be moving with my job, so they will be taking care of the visa process for both my wife and myself. I have to say, from the research we've done, I wouldn't relish the prospect of tackling it on our own! Well done to all of you.
Not too worried about the weather, we're just hoping more than anything that the people are friendly! Although a Scot myself, we find that the Aberdonians can be hard to make friends with! Saying that, once you do make friends, they are friends for life!
My wife is American and was much more used to people generally being friendlier so it came as a bit of a shock!
No doubt we'll be asking hundreds of questions, but I promise to use the search tab first so as not to ask the same old questions over again!
Many thanks again for the warm welcome, hope to be able to join you soon!
Hugo.

Hi Melissa and Hugo

Snap! My wife and I will be moving to New Plymouth on 20th November!

We're a couple in our twenties and are currently in Cambridge, UK. It's all very close now, and it's gonna be very hard leaving the people we love, so we are keen to make new friends.

We're in the same boat as you, so maybe we could meet up at some point?

PM if you're interested.
