(diane the girl who got picked on is my neighbour...helen you used her fax) SHE HATES drama and will not do anything in front of anyone...and guess what..she had to do the chicken thing solo!

Santa went mad throwing the 3 million lollies/sweets we had (tara..thank you for the large donation) and everyone was so generous with the lollies and biscuits that I now have biscuits for africa in my tupperware containers...!

mmm, I do believe in the last shot..there is a chick in pink and a chick in black with a little girl (tanya's rebecca wearing a hat ...between them) and it wouldnt be you two would it!!!

Thank you for getting the flag! I didnt realise it was you! sorry..so many names and faces. Nig got that from his brother and we always have it flying when we have our coffee mornings..what would we have done without it! so thank you.

Yep, the weather did good. Raining and cold today so very lucky.
The english club in chch also popped in with 4 families too so it was a real mixture of kiwis (my friends) newbies and those who have been here a good few years. Even my mates commented on how friendly it felt (there were about 7 families...they clustered together!) and just a nice atmosphere....so thank you! you guys are great!!

What a brilliant place to have a BBQ.

Can't imagine that over in UK without licences for this that the other. And also loads of freeloaders to boot. Oh and the weather,

Well done Nicky. If we are to try to emulate 163 at out North West meet I think we may have to change seats every 5 minutes to make it look full :laugh

Cheers Jo

great pics, nicola! I WISH I WAS THERE TOO!! :wah

How ever did you organize it? Just called or posted here, and they came?

CHCh looks very nice.

Hope we could have one when we get there.

more pics please?

of course we can have one when you get here!

Yep, just sent the call out on here (and on the 'other one!") since august and just went on and on about it!!! I also let the 'english club' in chch know about it and 4/ 5 or 6 families from there came...not too sure

There was my friends too...incase no forum people showed, but they did so they werent really needed!! ha ha (there were 11 families representing kiwis!! had a count up today who was there and it was more than the 9..I need to pay them!)

I have about 4 other photos but I am sure others may have taken some...

Jo, the actual area had a toddler pool, a basketball court, a fantastic play area..those swings on my pics were just an extra by the bbq's, plus a BMX track and a skate board area. It is 5 mins through the trees to the beach...it really is a nice place for a gathering as it is only 20 mins from town and a small seaside village thingy/atmosphere...with one shop (no pub!)

The only hard part about organising it was 'booking it with council for $25" so that wasnt too hard, and organising the clowns which was one more phone call and going on thursday to collect the sun shades that the cancer people said we could borrow.

Then waking at 2 am worried about "was there gas in our bbq? will people come? will it rain? will helen bring my prawns..she did! will people have a good time and talk to each other..they seemed too...alot have emailed me privately and said thank you it was brill...wasnt me! you guys made it fun...etc etc.

Mate, I can organise anything me...I do weddings barmitzvas, funerals! you name it, can pull it together in 3 seconds....

see you when you get here...

I think one meet up every 1/4 would be a goer...every season...what do you recon?

become a bit of a tradition? (1st weekend of sept..1st of dec..1st of mar...1st of June)

any thoughts?

want to meet anyone again!!!?? maybe not.

anyone want to do a pub night...dont think I will get all hurt if someone else wants to organise anything..I wont, promise!

i think this is one that will tip the scales for christchurch for us... nicola! (don't move yet, don't plan on going back to UK or wherever, until we all get there!! :laugh )

you know, it's a fun thing to be organizing events or stuff... it's a nice career to go into, and could be a fun business. nicky, you said you're a doctor, i am one too, and i love organizing events, too... hmm... i think we definitely have to meet one fine day! ;)

Annie, "trust me I am a doctor" is just a saying! (I wish I was bright enough to be a doctor) but yay that you are....'I have this rash...could you'... ha ha!!

Thank you ladies, I LOVE doing this sort of thing, but would hate to do it for money cos then the fun goes out of it (although happy to charge for boring things like arranging accomm etc!) A few at the bbq said I should do event planning/kids parties etc...too much stress.

Parties are a free extra if you come to chch...cos if they are crap..it was free anyway!

Tanya glad you are back, hope the kids enjoy school

Hi, Everyone:

Just wanted to thank Niki for putting together the super picnic. We really enjoyed meeting some of the expats in Christchurch.

We put in our EOI today so are now in the process of the long wait. Thank you to everyone who made us feel welcome despite our being from the US. We took a look at Sumner and really liked it. Thanks for the recommendation.

It may be a bit challenging getting a rental home there and real estate is quite dear. Mel may have a job offer in the near future, based on an interview he had in CC. We will wait and see. If he gets the job, he may be out in January, with me to follow later in the year. If not, we will probably be out in the next 8 months or so.

Hope to meet up with everyone again sometime soon. There is no US club in CC so we may need to start one. Hopefully there will be an active group of expats who get together socially, no matter where they are in the world, in CC.
