Ditto three.. I think we're staying in a holiday home for the first 3-4 weeks whilst we look for somewhere for a long term rental. I've also been looking on trademe.co.nz and also www.realestate.co.nz, so have got some ideas on prices of different locations for longer term rentals, but would good to get some info on any local agencies etc and hopefully have some viewings set up for as soon as we arrive..

We are renting in Christchurch at the moment and have just bought a house so looking for someone to take over our rental as from mid-Nov! Any takers can pm me for more details. Its 3 bed in St Albans/Merivale/Papanui.

When we were looking we found the best place to look was The Press at the weekend. There were pages of rentals all divided into suburbs. There are so many agencies out there but they all seem to adverise here.

We were surprised at how quickly rentals can be set up - we came in June to set a rental up for August when we arrived with our kids and most places weren't looking that far ahead. It seems most people wait until the property is empty before advertising so you can usually move in straight away.

Anyone coming to Christchurch, feel free to contact me. We have been here since August and loving it. We have come with 3 children and two cats. Feel free to ask questions and make contact as we are happy to share our experiences. We didn't have any direct friends when we moved here but have been put in touch with some great people. We all feel so at home already! It's a top place :raebanana

Most real estate companies have a separate section which deals with properties for rental. You may want to call them in advance and get a list of the available properties for rental. You can then have a look at the place from the outside and see if you like to location, etc before actually making an appointment to view the inside of the house. These agencies will normally charge a fee for their services. Just a note of caution though ... if you are at the same time looking into the possibility of purchasing your own property, then it is advisable not to sign a "long-term" tenancy.
