Just wondering if anyone has heard about hiring conditions for secondary English teachers from the US? I have read a lot about UK and South African teachers being favorable hires but have not heard much about US teachers.

OH has been teaching English to teenagers who have learning differences for over 12 years and is also the Head of Education at his private school. However, I am assuming these are positions you won't get hired for until you are living in NZ and available for interviews. (Understandable when you will be working with children)

Any opinions or stories to share?

Well, I have heard of a few people that are taken on from overseas. I think it will come down to how many people apply for the position you are after. I have 3 applications in at the moment so I will keep you posted. :) (Not from the US, though I can't see that making a huge difference)

Thanks for the info...I wonder since you are living over there and in the teaching profession, would you say that there is a need in the Education sector for secondary teachers, Heads of Departments, etc? It's always better to hear first hand from people than to go off of statistics and NZ Immigration info? :)

I'm still in the UK at the moment. There is a need for teachers and I know some subjects are in more demand than others. There are also HOD jobs around. Once again these would be easier to come by in the cities.

Yes, I'm sure you're right. We've been following the postings on the Education Gazette and there certainly are a lot of them. Good luck to you with your applications... :)
