I have heard that the roads in the auckland area can be a challenge, does anyone have any epxerience with N.Z GPS software

I am looking for something I can throw on the dash plug in a destination and go. Any good or bad experiences?

Seriously you don't need it! just a good map and within a few weeks you will get to know the main suburbs and how to get there! Besides you will want to keep all your attention fixed clearly on the lunatics around and in front of you while driving!

:cool

GPS!!!!! come on you don`t need it. If you can find your way in this country NZ is a piece of P... surely. Less traffic for starters. As a HGV driver who has been offered a position in NZ(just waiting for this stupid house to sell) i am the one who has to worry because i`m the one who is pulling 44 tonnes, a 45ft trailer, and has to look for a roundabout to spin on if i take the wrong turning. Can`t just back into someones driveway :eek
Come on get rid of the GPS idea, its all part of the FUN. :laugh. You want to run out with me one night your more than welcome.

Depends on exactly how much of the 44 tonnes you expect me to load, after about 22 my back starts to go out a little.

Good news about the roads, to be honest the GPS road issue was just an excuse for me to buy a GUY TOY.

You know so I could mark the exact spot on my GPS where I landed my first five pound trout. Call my boys state side and tease em"hey next time your near coordinates x and y. make sure to toss out your fly line.

Half the fun of moving to N.Z will be to tease my camping buddies about there crappy camp sites in Ca and there tiny(read Arnold Swartzenegger) "GIRLY TROUT." :laugh

I guess a digital pic will suffice

Just had a good idea. As an HGV driver if you go via Dover, could you smuggle me in the back of the lorry when you go to NZ. I could then claim asylum when I get there?

Sounds like a good idea - how many can you fit in Kim? You could start a side-line. :clap

PS Sorry your house isn't selling :?

Good idea: to true as the fine for smuggling asylum seekers into england is £2000 per migrant, i could turn it into £2000 fee for you to get into my DOUBLE DECKED trailer. Think i will seek jamie on this one and go for LTBV. What you think folks???? Positive thoughts only :laugh

When my wife and I visited NZ we did about 10 days of driving, 6-8 hours a day, 5 days on each island.
All we had was an AA hotels handbook and a simple tourist with major road names on and approx driving distance/time between major places.
Have to say we didn't get lost once.
NZ roads are easy and simple to follow.

Hi Azazel

We all can't afford to employ a "Simple Tourist" to get us around NZ :laugh
