We had our medicals done on thursday and had the results back today.
Carolines resuts were perfect and mine were very good too.
The problem is my medical history.
The doctor we saw was excellent he even rang me last night to discuss my results which he said were excellent for someone with my history.
I am a diabetic since 1970. I also have Osteoporosis.
I have several crushed vertebrate and also areplacement shoulder joint which fractured 12 yrs ago.
This is not as bad as it sounds. My diabetes is extremely well controlled and I am able to lead a normal life apart from checking my blood sugars and taking injections. My osteoporosis does not hold me back at all. I can use my arm perfectly and the only restriction is I cannot touch the ceiling with my right hand. Apart from that it is fine.I had a bone scan 8 weeks ago and the results were excellent.I have a machine called a powerplate that builds up your bone density and muscles. This has proved very succsessful. My latest scan revealed that I no longer had osteoporosis in my spine and only mild in my hip. This is where one of the problems lies.
When I had my scan I told the doctor that I needed the report ASAP as I was emigrating to Newzealand. He said he would request it sent to me within two weeks. That was eight weeks ago and I still have not received it. This report is a crucial part of me being acceptedI have sent several emails, left several messages on the departments answerphone ( no one ever answers the phone) and I have written two letters. I have received no reply.
I contacted my GP and even she cannot get a reply but she did ring the registrar and he told her that the problem is in the admin side. It is an absolute shambles. The doctors and nurses are excellent but apparently the office staff have been cut to the bone and they cannot cope. He has assured her that he will speed things up. That was two weeks ago.

The doctor who done my medical for NZ said he had never come across a complicated case like me. All my results were excellent and to look at me you would never know of these complications. He said that he had to warn me that they might fail me . As he has never had a case like me before he was uncertain what they would make of me. Anyway I am fairly confident as we sent all my medical details to them and they still accepted our EOI.
Because we are coming over on an investment visa with Caroline the main applicant I am hoping we will be ok. It would break Carolines heart if we were turned down but I am looking on the bright side.
We run our business perfectly in the UK and will do exactly the same over in NZ. I am sorry to go on like this but I just needed to get things off my chest

Dave...with the visa you're applying for do you get to appeal and apply for a medical waiver? Spend some time with the NZIS operations manual (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/generalinformation/operationsmanual/) (the link doesn't seem to be working right now but hope it is when you read this). Good luck.....I really hope you do get there, but you may well have some beaurocratic hoop jumping before you do! If you look for Albertz thread in medicals you'll find his tale of woe with the medical.....but he's now in NZ :)

All the very best, Lupin.

Chin up Dave ...... I'm sure this is just another hurdle that you will jump in the end. Keep your eye on the light at the end of the tunnel ...... nobody said this would be easy but you'll make it in the end.

Dave, it must be driving you nuts waiting for that report, and I bet there are others in your situation waiting on that department getting their act together as well (not that that helps you!)

I am no help at all, but I do feel your frustration, and it must be a worry, but if the worst happens and you get turned down, appeal, I think it was Lupin that mentioned medical waivers, if you want it enough, i am sure you can make it happen, just dont give up.

Hi Dave,

I had problems with my medical too, thanks to the blood test, they discovered I had pernicious anaemia, I went through a very bad period, having to have extra tests before they would accept my medical at NZIS.

The reason they would decline you is that they may think you would be a drain on the state, for example, if your medication were to be paid for by the state. I did some research into the cost of my medication and was able to prove that I could afford to pay for it and that as I was working, would not require state aid.

I hope everything works out well for you - good luck.

Hi Dave, as was mentioned I had a few problems with my medical but thanks to my family and the members on here :cheers , I stayed focussed and made it in the end, I would suggest sending in what you have and let NZIS make the next move, they read what my GP said but in the end I had to go private to get my medical sorted, it may be worth thinking about, as it was a specialists report they wanted didnt matter who it was from.

I was in a similar situation as my wife had her heart set on coming here, I felt under more pressure to get through and didnt want to be the "weakest link " :p

Good luck, stay focussed and keep us posted

Hi folks
Thankyou everyone for your support particularly Albert. Your thread has given me confidence. The annoying thing with me is I have had the bone scan done which has brilliant results and I can't get the report. I have looked into the operations manual and it seems the diabetes is not the problem, it is the osteoporosis that is more of a concern to them so this report is crucial
There may be light at the end of the tunnel. I was looking on the website of the hospital I am under and they have a complaints dept which I have now emailed and they promise to get back to you within 48 hours. We will have to wait and see
Once again thankyou all so much and I will keep you posted :) :)

:) Latest update.
I received the scan result this morning, now all we have to do is send it to nz and see what they make of it when I get my police report. Carolines arrived last week. Looks like i will have to chase that now.

Kindest regards

Dave :)
