Folks,

I'm beginning to panic a bit now. On the 6th Oct, the security restrictions on UK flights changed to allow bigger hand luggage and liquids bought in duty-free were allowed on US-bound flights.

http://www.baa.co.uk/

However it states for the size of bag allowed:-

"* This is the maximum bag size allowed through security. Smaller bag sizes may apply depending on which airline you travel with. We therefore advise you to contact your airline or visit the specific airport "

When I check the AirNZ website, it's hasn't been updated since 13th Sept so the size of bags allowed could be smaller.

http://www.eu.airnewzealand.com/travelinfo/travelsupport/importantcustomerinfo/summary_of_security_requirements.htm

I was wondering therefore if anyone has actually flown on NZ1 in October and can tell me first hand what size of bags are allowed on board NZ1 flights?

Many thanks.

Cheers

We have just had friends around today who flew back from new zealand by air NZ last week and they said there was no restriction to their hand luggage. They both took the small trolley type hand luggage and they were not questioned. So it looks like normal restrictions apply. Maybe you should ring air new zealand just to be on the safe side

hope this helps

Hi Starkhorn

We came back 3 weeks ago and when we travelled we were really carefull about the size of our hand luggage.

However, we did notice that people were wheeling trolley bags on to the plane and some also had rucksacks so we were a bit confused..

They do have measuring boxes all over the airports so you can check the dimensions of your hand luggage......although we did not see anyone using them.

HI,
We travelled on NZ1 about three weeks ago now (7th Oct). You are now aloud to take one item of baggage per person although I did see a few people get away with two (I just put my handbag inside my little suitcase at Heathrow)! We were aloud to take our normal trolley suitcases, they did measure them but it is the usual standard size ones that are accepted. We were still not aloud to take any liquid items, toothpaste, deo, water etc.

Hope this helps - try not to panic too much, it isn't actually that bad!

Thanks for all of the responses, good to hear first-hand. I just called airNZ in the UK and they confirmed that they are allowing the max hand-luggage allowed under the current BAA restrictions. So it just looks like the AirNZ website hasn't been updated since mid-Sept.

Thanks again.
