I was wondering if NZ markets produce "organic" food for local consumption? If so, is there a large selection? Do they include "free range" meat? Is there a cost difference?

In the US, we have to go to special sections in our supermarkets, or we have to go to special markets altogether in order to get this stuff.

PS - in case you are wondering, in the US, "Organic" foods are non GMO, grown without pesticides, and have no preservatives. "Free Range" means basically the same thing, but in regards to raising the animals. All of the feed is natural...

There are some organic markets but not in every neighborhood. There are even fewer organic butchers. With that said you can buy some free range, corn fed chicken in Pak-n-Save I don't know about red meat as I don't buy it. The major supermarkets (though not Pak-n-Save) have organic sections but they are pretty limited. And yes organic is much more expensive.

There was a previous thread about it here:

and here for meat specifically:

Hope this helps.
