Are seeds (i.e. vegetable seeds, plant seeds) allowed for import?

I'm sure you will find the answer to this is no.....they are very strict about any seeds.

Someone mentioned on another thread that they even had problems with their Christmas Decorations......pine cones.

I would not risk it if i were you.

It's probably the biggest No-No for bringing in - they take their Biosecurity VERY seriously here, and anything that could possibly introduce anything into the country is prohibited - items such as fruit etc, not just seeds.

The MAF website - http://www.maf.govt.nz/ - gives more info than you could possibly want!

It was my Christmas tree that was 'torched' because it had real pine cones as decorations.

I thought I was really careful and excluded spices that had whole seeds i.e. only taking the ground ones. It never occured to me that tree might be a problem but we live & learn :)

Veg & plant seeds are a definate no.

We got hassled by the sniffer dog at Auckland and i got very excited thinking that we were going to be pulled up for potential drug smuggling (I have a quiet boring life so exciting things like this are always welcome!). The dog sat next to my son, wagged its tail, and the customs chap asked to search my 10 yr old's bag. I was really chuffed by then! Anyway, turns out the bag had a bit of moldy apple juice lurking in the pocket - it was my son's school bag and he stored mouldy snack fruit in the pockets. We were given the all clear as there were no seeds.

Moral is - don't worry about smuggling drugs, bombs, etc etc. just whatever you do don't bring an apple into NZ.

Seeds? Definitely a no-go!!!!!
