Hi All

I have a couple of interviews coming up and was wondering if anyone can give me examples of aptitude questions asked in NZ
For example:
How would you deal with a troublesome colleague?
or What would you do if......

Its been a while for me as I've been with the same employer for ages now so it would be handy to have an idea what to expect. I'm comfortable with the technicle questions about the profession - just don't want something coming out and catching me on the hop

Along the same lines - any tips?

Any assitance greatly appreciated
Kirk

I think they're pretty much the same as anywhere. They generally ask you to illustrate them with specific examples, not just what you would theoretically do. Ones I've had have been things like:

- tell me about a time you had to show leadership
- tell me about a time you found a process was inadequate or could be improved, and how you went about it
- tell me about a time you had a problem with a co-worker and how it was resolved

These are generally known as competency or behavioural questions. If you do a google search you should get plenty of examples of question types.

When I was made redundant I was sent on a fantastic course that taught me all about presenting myself well in interview situations - basically to handle any kind of question that may come up.

Vic Uni have a great website with loads of really useful info for interview techniques and possible questions:

http://www.vuw.ac.nz/st_services/careers/job_hunting.html

STAR is the main acronym used for competency questions:

S= situation
T= task
A = action
R = resolution

So you would answer the question by explaining the situation, the tasks you needed to undertake to resolve the problem, the action you took and the final resolution.

Hope this helps.
