Hi one and all,

We are hoping to move to NZ from the UK next year and would dearly love to bring our bike (an 1800 Goldwing) with us. Can anyone offer any advice please? Will it be shipped in a container? Ideas on cost and any problems taking it in would be much appreciated as well as any tips.

yep it would go in a container, it would have to pass strict regulations and be thoroughly cleaned.

Some people have sent their Cars/ bikes over, do a search on shipping cars on here and you will find all sorts of info on it, plus links to the government website.

There are loads of threads on here, just do a search sure all your questions will be covered.

Chuck in as many spare sets of tyres as you can afford,as this NZ tarseal tears them to shreds and you can't find the same bargains here.I got 1500k out of some sports tyres.I now fit Metzler Roadtec and get around 8000k rears that is.$500 a pair and thats only on an 1150 Beemer.

You can either ship your bike in with your personal effects or send it seperately. Which ever it will have to have a seperate crate in the container so that it is secure and doesn't get damaged.

It will have to be spotless and I can guarentee that it will be inspected by MAF when it arrives this end, they may say they want it cleaned even if you have cleaned it you will have to wait and see. Check with the LTSA on the registaration requirements although I think it is just a case of paperwork.

MAF aren't as scary as you think I was in a bit of a panic when we shipped all of our stuff nearly 3 years ago but now I work for a logistics company okay we don't do personal effects but we do ship yachts.cars and bikes all over the world. I am in the accounts department so don't have a lot to do with the actual process but it isn't as scary as it all seems.

Good Luck with the move ;)
