We have been quoted £400 to fly a conatainer to Auckland with www.cargobookers.co.uk The basic provisio of the quote is 3 sq M and 600kgs. The person on the phone has said that this is a basic quote and that once they pick the stuff up they take it back, weigh it and revise the quote. That bit scares me. I'm concerned that once they get our stuff the quote will go through the roof. She also said that they can pick our stuff up on the 16th Nov and it will be in NZ on the 22nd. It will be available to collect as of then, no mention of MAF and that we will have 24 hours to get our stuff before charges kick in. Oh and she said that once the stuff has gone we go through the airline that flys the stuff so I'm thinking we may get hit with another charge.
A few questions:
a) Has anyone air freighted stuff?
b) Has anyone ever use cargo bookers?
c) Am I paranoid?

Ok, you asked for ANYONE!
The quote seems a really good price to me. Have you checked the other threads here for reviews of Cargobookers?
Good luck - we are in the same position so I am interested in what you find out.

yep I used cargobookers
I shipped my stuff - but I have some other stuff that I left in my mums garage that she is going to ring them and get them to send out -- books Clothes etc

sounds a good price - the extra costs will be Port handling, MAF fees and any transport costs.
I listed my prices in the thread above
Good luck

get them to give you details of the extra costs. Some packers will charge for what they consider "extra packing"...ie if you need to crate etc...belive me they are quite inventive somtimes!!!!
As long as you get detailed costs and all the extras that you might pay you should be fine...also ask how long it will clear at the other end and make sure they include the cost of deliver at the other end

I worked for a while in the airfreight industry (but over ten years ago) and know that it is completely normal for shipments to be measured and weighed prior to despatch. In fact it is essential. There is a conversion between volume and weight (please don't ask me what it is - but please do ask the agent) and you will be charged the higher.
The price you have been given seems reasonable, but it may be that you have only been charged up to arrival airport. You might well be charged for customs clearance, agent fees, storage and delivery. If your agent does not carry out these services directly, then they will almost certainly have a partner that they work with in NZ or be able to recommend someone. It always works out cheaper to obtain a complete cost including clearance and delivery, rather than paying for arrival airport and then a host of agents to arrange clearance and delivery. Plus it puts you in control.
Ensure that you know who will be clearing and delivering the consignment and make sure that you have a price and contact details.
Hope this helps.
