We have finally arrived in chch :raebanana :raebanana few days ago on tuesday 31st october after long nightmare flights...Our son had severe allergy reaction during the flight after ate fish fingers with trace of egg despite we rang emirates 3 times to check for egg free meals for ashley and fish free meals for gary  . Neither of them didn't get meals suit them! Just before we board the plane, the custom in Uk had took ashley's medication off us as the label from dr have fell off so we couldn't prove it is from dr even we got a letter stated that ashley have this medication to save his life from egg allergy reaction... so we went to boots to get new one and found they don't have any, so we went back to get it back from custom, we put up a fight with them that got to point that we refuse to board the plane if they refused give it back. In the end my husband had to drink it!! to prove it is ok! Looking back, we were glad that we got it back as turn out we did need it badly during flight as ashley couldn't stop vomiting and was very ill (he did recovered after had his doses of medication, so we carried on to chch) We will be writing a good letter to emirates about this.....
Anyway we are still finding place to rent at moment, We are thinking of aiming at Halswell areas, seem very nice areas. We did pop into Sumner and Redcliff. We also looking into Avonhead, burnside, ilam, etc areas too.......
Better off to riccarton mall to do food shopping at Pak n save!!!! We are currently staying at Ashleigh court motel, very nice family owned motel..

Blimey, what a journey! But its all over and you are here, and all OK now. I would be writing a very strongly worded letter to Emirates, it could very easily have been a lot lot worse.

good luck with the rental, and enjoy PnS, its an experience!

What a nightmare flight !!! It's rang warning bells for me too. my eldest has a sever nut alergy and I have to carry an epipen with us wherever we go ...... will make sure it's correctly labelled. my heart goes out to you - you must have been very scared/angry.

Good to know that you're here now, you've brought the wonderful weather with you. Hope everything goes well from here on in.

Scary - I would certainly leave the airline in no doubt about how u feel. That is disgusting, and I hope you do have copies of the letters you sent to them. Did they ever reply back to you by the way??? If they have you have good grounds for giving them a severe kicking so to speak. Imagine if you hadn't fought for the medication? What chance they would have had something suitable on the plane - not a lot probably.

On the plus side, at least you there now. Good luck for the future.

Thank you to everyone! I can't believe how warm the weather is for "spring" in last few days as i have already got tan, so it is case of that i need to remember put suncream on us! My sister have said that we have brought sunshine with us too, so must be cold before we arrived then ;)
We have found the place to rent but the catch is the place is not ready till 25th nov, so we will be homeless on tomorrow for 3weeks....so i am off to find holiday home for next three weeks as too expensive to stay at motel for 3wks unless anyone know any place we can stay in chch!?!?!?!? We are at Ashleigh court motel, chch, at moment. Also we also looking for old car to keep us moving while waiting for our house in uk to be sold, got a call from estate agents yesterday, got offer but not in position to buy yet as not sold their yet.. :uhoh

Hi Sophia and welcome to Christchurch! What an absolute nightmare flight!

Have you looked at any holiday lets to stay in? Also, I have friends who stayed in the Top 10 holidays park in Chch for a week or so. Good luck with the hunting! Think the weather's cooling down a bit tomorrow but that will probably make house hunting a bit easier for you.

Keep us posted.

Welcome Sophia & family

What an 'adventure' you guys had in getting here :no Hope you're all feeling better now - and yes, the weather does help if feeling at 'home'.

Look forward to hearing about your updates. Are you going to work too? Or are you going to be a 'stay at home mum' for a while (sorry I can't remember)? If looking for a great place to go to with your children, which is relatively cheap (I pay $40 per term for 3 mornings) and a great way to make a new social group of friends - have a look at your local playcentre(s) - www.playcentre.org.nz or PM me if you'd like to know more.

Best of luck these next weeks of settling in.

Hello Sophia and family

I had goosebumps and almost started to cry when i read your post about the allergy reaction ON AN AEROPLANE!! - you must have been freaked out, as a mum of 3 young kids myself - due to make the trip in 12 days - it really hit home. We can cope with anything as long as the kids are fit and well, 2 of mine have stinking colds with temp. of 100 at the mo!, so i will desparately be trying to smuggle calpol on to the plane just in case!!

I am so glad to hear that all is now o.k and hey enjoy you made it there and i am very excited for you.

take care

Sue

sue - you are allowed to take small amounts of liquids on the plane now so no need to smuggle! hope the kids get better soon.

Thank you to everyone for their replies, i am at bishopdale's library to borrow their computer to write this! while my son is at kendal kindy... :D
We decided to not wait for this house we want because everyone gone bonkers in motel room, so we grabbed next house is available to move in asap but nice, this house in burnside came up found by motel's owners who we become friends with. They lend their stuff to get by :nice1 till our stuff should be turn up next week wednesday, finger cross! Children is missing their toys and mostly important, their beds!!! what unsettling nights we had....even romilly got a mattress on the floor with suitcases around to stop her fall out, but she got another idea, in early hours, she climbed out of her bed and crawling to us in next room still in sleeping bag, this occur with colder nights, so she is clever to work out how to get warm in bed with us at 9 months old!
We took chance to get out of house every weekend as house is so empty...visit kaikoura, akaroea and arthur's pass...Did climbing up the mountain with romilly in back carrier and ashley on tow. Also during week while husband at work, we get out and meet other people and children...been to chipmunk and lollypop so far, playcentre but not to playgroups yet..
Hope to go to sumner beach next week if weather pick up as was plan go this week but brrrr. I am still get my head around that i am now in NZ!! Can't believe it... And learning their way of lifestyle, and oh yes, their accents.
Is i am only one find very hard to believe that xmas is coming??? how you cope with it??? i haven't even starting to do any xmas cards and presents etc as i keep put it off which unlike of me. :roll

Welcome to Christchurch...not sure I am qualified to welcome you as we have only been here 3 months since leaving the Yorkshire dales behind.

All our stuff is on route and due to a cock up with pickfords will not be here until the new year.

We have found basic stuff like cheap beds and other stuff to put us on at garage sales.

We got two single beds and mattreses for $10 the pair...and the delivered!!

If you need any help I can get hold of a trailer.
