Hello,
we have been looking to start the process of moving to NZ for a while now but seem to get lost in all the different ways and agencies offering to help. Found this forum and it looks like a gold mine of advise !.
I am a time served mechanical engineer, qualified to HNC std and have around 20 years experience in industry. The trouble is I'm not sure how this translates in points when doing online assements - sometimes we get loads - other times its not enough !. Can anyone advise a site/organisation/person or agency that can tell us if we have a chance or not ?
We are living in Scotland are a family of 3 (Ourselves and 1 17 yr old son).I'm aged 39.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Welcome the forum - one piece of advice I'd give, if you can fill in forms and sort out a bit of paperwork, you don't need to pay thousands of pounds to an agency!!! It is very daunting at first but take it a step at a time it really isn't too hard, and everyone here will help as much as they can with any queries you may have!
Good luck! :)

Hi Chris n pam welcome to the forum. Must agree with Marcia dont waste money by having an agency filling in your immigration forms (they are not that bad). Use the agencies for info but fill in your own paperwork and keep your money in your pocket.

OK its been a while since weve been online. PC's!!!!
Anyway back up and running.
We requested a N/Z pack and in it was a EOI form.
I'm going thru the questions on a copy, and am wondering if there is anyone out there who can "guide" me thru. Some of the questions may seam a little obvious, but I dont want to leave things to chance by putting the wrong things down - so please bear with us.
So far :-
Question 6 , pg 2 relating to birth cert, Name of issuing authority. Is this the name of the registrar that made the entry ? (sorry if this sounds a bit silly)
Question 12 pg 3
Taxation number - whats is this ? same as national insurance number ?
Social security number - is this my national insurance numer ?
Thanks in advance for any help
We'll have some more questions soon

I remember someone asking the taxation number question before so I did a search for you and found Hannah's post :
"I am from UK - I put NI number for Taxation number and my NHS no. (on your NHS medical card) down for social security no. I did ring and ask and was told NI no would have sufficed for both (so don't worry if you don't have your NHS no.)"
As for the first question, I'd take "issuing authority" to mean the council that issued the certificate (or the registery office, rather than the person). I'm not from the UK but I seem to recall that each city/town area keeps its own register of births and deaths - they probably want to know which office to ring to check you are legit.
Good luck!

This will be the Registration District, found in the top left hand corner of post 1969 full (large-type, with parents' details) birth certificates.
Hope this helps.

Hello!
Well we're almost in the same boat! My husband is also a Design Engineer (Mechanical or Building Services) and he also is qualified to HNC standard with 18 years experience. And like you we are a little confused as to what points/bonus points we are entitled to.
We got in touch with a recruitment company in NZ who told us that there are plenty of jobs available for engineers at the moment, the problem is if you have a family in tow it's going to harder to get there. If you are on your own, they can get you out there as quick as 3 months.
Because we are a family (of 4) we have to go the skilled migrant path - the chap at the company said he had a contact at the NZIS and was going to look into points/assessments etc for us and let us know. So as soon as I know, I'll post back.
You will have to send off you HNC certificate to the NZQA, despite it being on the NZIS website as 'recognised'. The rules have changed so no longer can immigration officers assess your certificates. Go to the Guide to a Full Assessment on the NZQA website (will set you back about £150).
Just a tip, if you do your EOI online it will save you about £50.
On the same front, if you find out anything regarding your job/qualification/work experience - I would really appreciate some feedback! :D
Anyway, I hope that helps a little. All the best!

Hi there Chris and Pam,
Just seen your post for the first time. We're in a similar position in that other half is educated to HNC level (Building) but works in IT with over 13 years experience.
We got his HNC pre-assessed (to see if/how many points we would get as it wasn't on their recognised list) and once we established we'd get 50 points, we had it formally assessed for the ITA.
We are only claiming the 50 points as a basic recognised qualification and not in relation to his work experience. If you check out my blog, you'll see exactly how we filled in our EOI.
P.S. Whereabouts in Scotland are you? We live in Dunfermline.

Hi Twig - Just on the off chance that the recruitment agency you spoke to is NewJobz or Skills NZ, check out this thread (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9096). It's probably not, but some people have lost thousands to recruitment agencies promising job offers, so I wanted to pass the info along just in case.

This is only if you are intending to claim bonus points for work exp or qualifications. As an HNC is really very unlikely to entitle you to those bonus points anyway you would probably just be wasting your money to get it assessed if its already on the recognised list. if its not on the recognised list then yes - you'll need it assessed just to get your normal 50 points. Hope that helps.

Thanks for al lthe pointers.
Tonights questions are (starting to sound like some kinda quiz master)
relating to my good character, namely Q11 and Q13
11 - have you ever been convicted or found guilty of any offence against the law in any country ? Does this include the speeding offences, here in uk from 7+ years ago ? Question 12 kinda covers these offences up to 5 yrs.
13 -have you ever been charged with any offence against the law in any country ? (Surely a pre-requistit to being convicted) and again does this include motoring offences here in the uk from more than 78 yrs ago ?
I expect these question relate to, say, being charged then convicted of, say, shoplifting while on holiday in Spain or where ever......... again if in doupt ask.
Thanks

But seriously, speeding tickets don't count. (There's this thread (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3895) on it.) More serious issues like driving under the influence would need to be listed, but not speeding.
