We are off to Christchurch in the new year and one of many things that has crossed my mind - do we need to apply for an IRD number before we go or should we do that when we get there? I have a job to go to so will I have to do this or will my employer do it for me? :confused:
Didn't realise there would be so much paerwork to do!!

You will need to apply for it. You can do it here or there but its very straightforward to do from here and one less thing to worry about when you get there.

The adress to send it to is on the form. Send it off with a copy of your passport or birth cert and about 8-10 days later you'll get your IRD number in the post. Also ring them if you've got any questions - they are really helpful.

Hmmm ..am I being very thick here ?! (highly likely).. but on the IRD form can I give a UK address or do I need to give a NZ address ?. We do have one for the first month that we are staying.. but we'll only be there for a few weeks, so would be wary of giving it.

Any advice gratefully received!

I applied for ours from the UK and put my home address on the form. They arrived no problem at all. :yes
