How does military service in NZ work? Do kiwis have a standing army? Do kiwis have a citizen/soldier army? Do you have compulsory service? How large is the kiwi military?

We have a military service (army, airforce, navy), such as it is. They're great at search and rescue, shipping aid to Pacific islands following natural disasters etc. Not sure how great they'd be in an attack on our islands :exit . And they're cutting back on military expenditure all the time. And def no compulsory service.

When my husband was in the Royal New Zealand Navy there was a total of 3 ships !!!!

Like Deb says, great for search and rescue and for ferrying 'big wigs' around.

New Zealand have an SAS regiment, just like the UK.

Although a small force, they apparently can definitely do the job.

They also do a bit of peacekeeping around the globe.
