2 weeks !!!!!!! Sh****************************t !!!!!!!!!!

OK - the best bit of advice our packers gave to us ....

Flat pack anything that needs to be done.

Remove everything from the house that isn't being loaded into the container. If this is not possible, put it all in one room and put a sign on the door saying 'do not pack the contents of this room'.

Then literally leave it all to the packers. They will empty cupboards and drawers and wardrobes - they won't want you to do anything apart from keep them plied with cups of tea and biscuits (until you pack the kettle).

We're using White & Co ... these are the instructions we received, I would imagine that if you're having the entire wrap. pack, door to door service, whichever company you use it will be pretty much the same.

Remember - any bikes need to be steam cleaned and the wheels washed down with jeyes fluid or similar. Same goes for any garden ornaments or any of Lucy's outside toys.

Now stop faffing and get sorting !!!!!!!

Being the highly organised individual that I am it's like "Mental Central" in this house for the past couple of weeks, I have been sorting and resorting my stuff before those pesky packers get their hands on my stuff. Like you Linda I'm expecting (nay praying) that I will get a call any day soon saying we can exchange contracts. Apart from the fact I need to see exactly what is at the bottom of all those drawers and cupboards, clean out the dust and rubbish so that I can be sure that what they pack is actually stuff that I want / need, I hate the thought of anyone else seeing my dirt. I have been busily sorting stuff into particular cupboards, so that hopefully it will get packed that way and I will be able to find stuff when I get it at the other end. I also have double trouble as we are moving into rental for the time being and trying to decide what is going where is giving me nightmares.

I have to say it is an endless task because I keep thinking of places where I have stuff. Like the backpacks full of outdoor gear that I keep in the boot of my car, which I suddenly realised last night all needed washing.

God, get me out of here before I drive myself insane.

Lil,
Washing - don't get me started on that!!

I'll have to sort out what stays for here, what goes in the container and what hgets packed for NZ and have em all washed in2 weeks . I'll not only be living in a disorganised hole but a laundry as well!!!!!!

Diny gave me good advice about putting all the things that are not for the packers into one roomand labelling the door with " do not pack" - invaluable I think! will be using that advice too.

Good luck yourself and try not to stress too much ( this coming from the psycho twittering blackkbird girl herself :laugh )

See you soon in NZ!!
Love Linda xx

Hi Linda,

Hope everything goes OK .....not long to go

I think the packing side of things is going to be one of my nightmares, although I do have 18 months to get organised! :P

Last time we moved house we used a company who packed everything for you. Frodo is not what I'd call 'handy' so the plan was that the removal co would dismantle the bed, wardrobes etc and then reasemble in the new house. They did that OK, but it was the little things that annoyed me. They packed the kettle without emptying it first :? :uhoh !!!!!!

I'm a bit of a 'Monica', and if I have my way I'll pack most things myself and then rely on the packers to do the heavy stuff. Not sure how this will effect the insurance though????

Great idea of Diny's to seal off one room! :P

Good luck!

I know what you mean about anybody else seeing your dirt - it makes me cringe thinking that a stranger may pull a cupboard away from the wall and find filth !!!!!!! (and I don't mean PB's selection of adult mags :eek ).

Linda - I know you don't have the luxury of 'time' (but that's not such a bad thing) ..... I've been packing, thinning down belongings & selling surplus 'stuff' for a couple of months now .... I tend to fall into the 'manic organiser' category.

I have to admit to being abit of a magpie. Anything that I find even slightly desireable I have to keep (can anybody tell me why I have a stack of empty margarine cartons in the pantry). Somehow I've managed to get rid of anything that hasn't been used, worn or appreciated in the last few months. It's been very difficult but strangely liberating.

Look upon it as de-cluttering your lives.

[quote="Diny"] put it all in one room and put a sign on the door saying 'do not pack the contents of this room'.

Unfortunately we only have 4 rooms (including kitchen & bathroom!), and we're already falling over stuff that's stacked up ready to sell! Looks like anything we don't want to be sent out will have to be banished to one corner of one room and covered in a sheet with a big sign!

I'm trying not to think about it too much :eek

But Linda, don't worry, I'm sure you'll be fine :nice1
