Congratulations.

We are very pleased to confirm that your Expression of Interest has been successful.

You will shortly receive a letter inviting you to lodge an Application for Residence. The letter will contain information to help you complete your Application for Residence.

Please ensure that your Expression of Interest holds your most current mailing address details so you may receive our letter at the earliest.

So after sending in my EOI 3 weeks ago, I just got an update of 'Decision Successful'. After checking everyday since submiting EOI, I can't tell you how happy i was to see that. :cheers

Now the questions:

1)
I take it this 'decision successful' means that they've already done preliminary checks on the info that I've provided, and now my ITA is in the mail? (i'm feeling *very* awkward about having them talk to my current employer [not in NZ], as they have no idea as to my overseas intentions)

2) When is an officer going to be assigned to my case? If it matters, I'm already in NZ, and have claimed skills shortage experience, but don't have a job here.

Thanks!

Sue

Welcome suebeenz and congrats on your "decision successful!" :raebanana

1) Yes, though I don't know whether they will get the ITA our to you right away. Getting past the EOI stage is often the biggest hurdle, unless you have health issues that come up when you get your medicals done.

2) In my case (but I went through the process over a year ago) a case officer was not assigned until after I had returned the ITA and he was about ready to interview me.

(We were in the US and didn't have a job offer but were given PR within 3 weeks of mailing the ITA in. But timings vary wildly from person to person and depending on what the current backlog is at NZIS.) I don't know what the timings are like for folks in NZ right now. I'm sure someone else will post with more recent experience.

Anyway congratulations!!! And best of luck breaking it to your current employer.

I wouldn’t worry about your current employer. Mine has been very understanding, as it is not as if you’re going to a competitor or anything. My Human Resources were cool about the whole thing, in fact one of them was hoping to move to Aus and I was telling her to go for it. I hope that she did.

With regard to the EOI, this does not mean that they’ve done a check, it is only a preliminary tally of points. You will need to submit an Invitation to Apply, which is when NZ Immigration Service do the physical checks. However, if your EIO is okay, then the ITA should be okay too.

If you haven’t got the medicals or police checks organised do so now, as they’ll save a bit of time. Well this was the case for us in the UK, NZ may be different.

It usually takes a couple of weeks for the EOI to be assigned to an officer. While it is a nervous time, hang in there, it is well worth it.

As you are in NZ, it will be easier for you to get a job. If you need any help, I am sure someone here will be able to help.

All I can say is good luck and well done you. Go for it.

Hi Jess,

Thanks for your reply. After watching latest lost this morning (I have a weekness), I was happy to see it.

Hmm, prior to this latest 'decisioni successful' state, I received a letter that said 'selected for consideration', in which they say "Your EO has been forwarded for consideration. You will be contacted when an officer has been assigned to your case". I took that as 'anyday now', but I haven't even received my ITA yet. :-) Getting one assigned an officer after returning ITA makes more sense. Hoping ITA comes soon.

Thanks Jess! I really hope the employer won't know until after PR is granted. That's why I was asking about getting assigned an officer, so I could talk to someone about that, asking them to be 'discreet' about verifying employment history.

We'll see how it goes.

Ok that's good news, hopefully when I get assigned an officer, I can bring up the 'please be discreet talking to my employer'. I'm not too concerned about hurting employers feelings, but hoping I can continue working until Feb [remote] (and "Hi Sue wants to immigrate to NZ" to my employer would put a stop to that).

Thanks Hodges! Yup, I already have the ball rolling with police checks. Going to hold back on medical stuff, as some of the police checks apparently take months :wah , and would hate to have my medicals expire before I can submit.

you don't have to worry about them being discreet when talking to your employer - they wont talk to your employer at all! you have to provide the evidence of employment.

Thanks Trigirl. That's great news. Thanks for your tax response too. Sounds like that can get tricky.

They actually did want to speak with my employer when I was at this point in the process. The good news is they called and asked. I told them that I was not ready for that at this point and they told me they understood. They simply wanted to verify the length of my employment for a random "points" audit. I was able to fax them some tax information that US employers give you each year and my original offer letter. I never heard from that particular person again.

Just some information to put your mind at ease.

:cheers

Thanks Johnathon for the post. On my online EOI, i couldn't figure out how to denote that I was still employed, so had to put an end date. So ... hopefully they check with me, even though it looks like I'm no longer employed with them. Sounds like the consensus here is that they do check with you just in case. :cheers

Waiting for the call ... :)

Well, as it turns out, i hear that I've already been assigned a CO and the ITA is in the mail. We'll see. The person that I spoke to said that they would have likely already called all my employers by now, but I'll chat to the CO about it after I get the ITA.

If you're filling out the EOI and you're nervous about them calling your current employer, they suggest putting in a comment in the 'Please indicate why you believe this work experience should be recognised' field

About already being assigned a CO, perhaps the timing is different since I'm already in NZ.

Is that a mailtruck i hear ? :exit

Yes, we were in the US mailing the ITA to London, and it was over a year ago anyway.

Glad things are moving right along for you! You'll be done in no time! :D

Thanks Jess! I think I checked the mail at least four times yesterday. :laugh No dice, but really, getting diplomas and police checks is going to take longer anyways. Patience patience. If I smoked, I'd be smoking a lot of them right now I'm sure. :-)

I know it's a small step, but I'm always looking for reasons to celebrate.
