Just need to share this with someone so forgive me if I rant.

We had our medicals last Wednesday (8th Nov) and had to travel 40 miles to Perth. The Dr we saw was very good, excellent with the boys. I had spoken to his colleague prior to attending as I knew my BMI would be well over 35 and we agreed that I would fast before we attended. Anyway, everything went fine or so we thought.

We have just had a call from them saying they have all the bloods back but need another blood test from OH. They have received mine back and they are fine. I asked what the blood test is and she said it is an FBP - which is a normal blood test and that there would be no extra charge. They didn't come outright and say it but it seems to me that they just forgot to take it! The problem is OH has no holidays left and he can only go on certain days because it has to be the same panel doctor taking the bloods.

They want him to go on Wednesday morning. I asked if he could go tomorrow afternoon as he is working from home. They said No. The doctor is on house calls. Arrgghhh.

The other thing is we'll have to wait again for the results of these tests AND we had been really good prior to the medicals, eating healthily and not drinking and of course since the bloods were taken we have eaten burgers and had the odd tipple or two... I'm just so annoyed.

Sorry for the rant - just had to get it off my chest. At least I can have a drink tonight - Sam will probably have to abstain.

Could you suggest he go to Dunfermline Hospital and have them done there - all the while reminding them it's their fault... and 50km... and loss of earnings.... ? I'm sure they could have the results faxed through to Perth direct from hospital to keep it official.

Oh you poor thing. And poor Sam too! There are so many things in the whole process that seem to be like this – not impossible but harder than they should be. The good news is that unless Sam has been told to fasting for the blood test there really is no need to avoid alcohol etc.

I'm with Moorf. Try to have the blood drawn somewhere more convenient. The doctors must send their bloods off to a lab for analysis. Maybe you could give blood at the lab itself (in NZ Medlabs around the country are happy to draw your blood at different locations).

Good luck finding a better solution! Then you'll really be able to enjoy that tipple.

Yup, ditto that, tell them that you aren't able to go - it is their fault and get them to make alternative arrangements for the bloods.

Thanks for the replies. Sam has now arranged to visit them again on Wednesday at 8.30 a.m. and then he will work from home for the rest of the day. Not ideal but better than having to wait.

The problem for us is the doctor sends the bloods off to London as it only takes 2-3 days to come back. If he sends them anyway else (including the hospital next door to the practice) they take well over a week up here in Scotland. Better to travel that distance and have the results back (hopefully by end of the week) than to have bloods done locally and then wait 7-10 days. Ho hum....

Really annoys you though doesn't it?!! Good luck with the tests anyway.

Just a quick update - Sam had his blood test this morning - it seems they simply forgot to ask for one of them. The Full Blood Count. All his other results are fine, as are the ones for the boys and me. Sam brought our medicals home with him and the doctor is going to send his out registered post as soon as he receives the blood back - hopefully on Friday!!!

The medicals we picked up have been sealed and stamped by the doctors and we're just trying to decide whether to open them.

Go on, you know you want to :p

Seriously, there was a thread about this elsewhere, but the general consensus was you've paid for them, they're yours, open them. Check them too and make sure everything is correct. It's easier to get a mistake corrected now than when everything's with NZIS.

Hope the other test comes through quickly and it's all sorted.

I agree with this 100%. In fact when we had our medicals done the doctor said to make sure we checked the medicals when we got them as mistakes can be made. If there is a mistake then it could cause all sorts of problems.
So I would definitely say open them
