Ian is on a course at the moment doing the LGV licence. What will he have to do to be able to use it in NZ. We have the shippers in next week and if he will have to re-do it in NZ then their doesn't seem any point doing it. Help!

Hi Nicola,
First and foremost what licence is he sitting, Class 1 or 2? please don't tell me he is sitting the Class 3 licence because this is useless here as there isn't the shortage of drivers in that area. If he is sitting one of the others then i'm afraid he will require 3 years experience, but with that said is hubby the principal applicant? if not then it all comes down to the company's out here whether they are prepared to risk a inexperienced driver.
If you shed some more light on this then i will try and answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.

Hi Kim
Also interested in the licence story, do you have to get NZQA to assess your skills, also don't seems fair to me if you already have a heavy licence then have to do it again. Do we truck drivers just do a written exam or the whole test? How did it go for you.
I hope I am are doing the right thing by coming over and then looking for that work permit for 2 years with an accredited company, I am starting to stress about the whole thing. I have to get residency one day right, help out a poor fellow.
Howzit to all South Africans, now you know why we have to stay in NZ, we can't go back
Cheers for now

No Miggie NZQA will not assess your licence, and you don't have to sit a test(practical) only a theory.
Listen, if you are coming out looking for a job don't hold your breath for accredited company's because there are very few on the list. I would suggest come and seek any company who are willing to employ you on a 2 year visa, and wait for the role to be put on the Long term list, which hopefully will be in the next few months, this will then enable you to apply for PR even without a job offer.
