Hi everybody!

I am going to move from Spain to Chch. By the way, has anybody moved from Spain before? Please tell me your shipping experience.
Anyway, I'm totally lost about shipping my personal goods. I have heard about different services offered by shipping companies that include door to door service or door to port. I guess the first option should be more expensive as I am totally sure they charge for every step they take. My questions are:
1) what must I do once my 2 cubic meters arrive to the port? Must one contract an agent to manage everything or can one do it by himself?
2) If one do it by himself... who download the container, the shipping company?
3) Once my package is downloaded, can one manage with customs and MAF presenting the required documents and then take everything to my new home?
4) I have checked that it's much cheaper to deliver it in Auckland. Is possible to contract a moving company to manage the delivering and then move it to Christchurch? is it expensive?

Ufff!, many questions friends, but it's a big step and I don't want problems. Could anybody answer this points under his own experience?
Thanks a lot! MUCHAS GRACIAS AMIGOS!

I shipped a container from Jersey (Channel Islands) and personal goods from Sydney and both processes differed. The container was a full wrap, pack, deliver door to door service where the shippers presented all the documetation to Customs & MAF for clearance and if required, inspection. I was keeping my container stored in NZ for a few months so there might be a different procedure if you wanted it delivered immediately.

As for personal goods, six bags mainly of consisting of general things when you "live out a suitcase for 3 months", we had to take the paperwork to customs & MAF ourselves to get it cleared. The approved paperwork was then taken to the depot to collect our stuff. Pretty simple really.

Hope this helps,
David.
