Hello again!
I was wondering, completely metaphorically speaking. *If* we get accepted from the EIO pool with enough points and no job offer and then some months later they send us the application for residency (is this the next stage), is there a time limit on this or is it open ended?
So can we wait 6 months to apply for residency if we are already accepted or is that bad? The reason I'm asking is we are kinda tied to the UK for a little while longer than the whole process may take and have money & house restrictions. So I don't want to be in the situation of being forced to leave when we're not ready.
Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!
Thanks :D

Hi Helensy,
Welcome to the forum!
The EOI stays in the pool for 6 months or until selected, if you have not been selected during this time then you have to re submit your EOI.
Once you have been selected from the pool, you get your Invitation to apply (ITA) this is valid for 4 months from the date on the letter. It is basically a printout of your EOI, and you have to provide NZIS evidence of the points that you have claimed and also submit your medicals which are valid for 3 months and get police checks, (Sorry can't remember how long they are valid for)
After that you get your interview with NZIS and then hear if you are succesful, or not. There is a really good detailed post by JUniper if you search for it, it is really informative.
But hope this helps
Good luck

Hi Helensy
Just to add to Helsandfamily's reply, once you are granted PR you still have 12 months to activate it. If you don't send in your passports and send in certified copies, then you have (I think) up to 6 months to pay the Migrant Levy and the 12 months doesn't begn until the Migrant Levy fee has been paid. So potentially you have 18 months before you need to activate your PR status.
I hope this makes sense.

That's good news because (a) I think there could be some hold ups unless I locate my change of name deed soon (I've put it somewhere "safe" :roll) and also with houses on the rental market etc so I am very grateful to hear that you have that 12 month buffer if you need it, I think we might! Thank you ;)

Could be an even longer buffer than that- at worst, you have to travel to NZ to activate the PR and get your Returning Residence Visa, but then it's good for another 2 years. So you could actually go for a look see, and then return to the UK for another year before finally moving to NZ. There are consequences to this, such as your next RRV being for only 2 weeks or something like that, if you haven't meet the requirements of being in NZ atleast 6 months out of every year. But at worst, it would buy you more time.

Wow cool, that's an interesting idea. I think once we have sorted out finances, plans, houses, relatives etc and really started the ball rolling then we will have to make a giant list of our possible entry options. :clap

What I forgot to tell you is that at present police checks are taking 40 days to be returned. Our medicals took just 3 days or though that is quick. So it is a good idea to apply for police checks at least a couple of weeks before medicals. Depending on what part of the country you are in ,if you pm us we can give you the details of an excellent doctor
Kindest regards

We sent off our police checks form the day after the NZIS webiste said that we had been selected from the pool.
I can confirm that you have 6 months from Approval in Principle (we didn't send off our passports with our evidence and completed forms) to submitting your passports (and paying migrant fee) to get their VISAs "put in" (we will also get given a 2 yr returning residents VISA at the same time). You then have a further 1 year to activate (ie visit NZ) your "residency". The returning residents VISA allows to you leave NZ (on holiday or something else) and return back again, remembering that you will need to renew the returning residents VISA close to the end of the 2yr point.

Rightho, I guess we are in a weird situation in that we are not actually in a massive rush, with so much to sort and savings to gather to make sure we cover as many possibilities as we can. Thank you :nice1
