Me again :roll

I changed my name by deedpoll when I was 18 (over 10 years ago now). Do I need to declare this do you think? I changed it because I hated my surname (don't ask) not for any sinister reason. The change has filtered into every UK document & file system and I never need to mention it these days, I'm also not entirely sure where my change of name deed actually is!

Has anyone done this and is it okay?
Thanks
Helen

I think you will have to mention this as when you apply for a police report and medicals these sort of questions will be asked. Its best to mention this as if they find out and you did not tell them it may cause complications. As long as you are not trying to hide something then you have nothing to worry about. Caroline had her names changed twice due to marriage and they were told this and no problems
Kindest regards

Rightyho thanks again - for some strange reason I thought mentioning it would cause delays but I guess they dig up all the dirt anyhow so you're right, I best find my deedpoll.

Now then, if you were an important piece of paper, where would you hide? :D

In the last place you'd look! ;) Well, that's where they go when I look for them!

It will obviously be in the most random place imagineable knowing me. :p

I just pray I was smart enough to put it in my important paper box, but I can't recall when I last clapped eyes on it, but then I don't make a regular visit to the important paper box unless I need something. Hmmm, so maybe... just maybe I will amaze myself :laugh.

changed my surname too, about 4 yrs ago (cheaper than marriage - £35 as opposed to £35000!!!!) - got sick of people assuming i was a childminder or something coz my children had different surname.

Wasn't a problem, just submitted change of name deeds with my PR application and gave my 'previous' name on all the documents i filled in (including police check).

Was no problem at all at any stage. NZIS will need to see original change of name deeds (or certified copy of original) though.

Mine changed by statuary declaration too and NZIS wanted to see the certified or original document.

If your name differs from the one on your birth certificate you'll need to show them, but as Hannah says it's no problem, just include it with your application.

Did you find it yet? :)

Great, good to know someone else has done it (and not through marriage) and managed it. That puts my mind at rest, thank you. :nice1

Erm no. I visited the important paper box this morning and dug through it. It's not there, it would have been far more obvious if it was as it's all bundled together on funny textured paper. I have hidden it somewhere really really really safe :roll.

Not to mention because I did it so long ago there was no archiving service in place so I can't even get a certified copy. This means that I have to apply for a whole need Deedpoll apparently. I might hunt through the pit that is my spare room over the weekend in the hope it's burried in there. Just hope I didn't shred it / give it to the pet rodents for bedding or something even worse :no
