Firstly, this is our 1st attempt at posting a msg so fingers x'd! Well my hubby has just spent the whole day at NZ house being interviewed for a police transfer, they gonna be in touch within 7 days but he feels it went well. They have already said if succesful we will be in Auckland or Hamilton, having visited neither feedback wld be great (we have 2 kiddies under 3). Also they have hinted that it could be as soon as April!!!! OMG!!! We thought they might help with visa's but they don't help with anything. So if we get an offer of a job what do we do 1st????? Unfortunatley all our money is tied up in the house and we have nothing saved due to 2 beautifull but demanding small children. Does anyone have an idea of costs for visa's, medicals, flights anything really, we know very little at this stage. also would you suggest selling the house asap or awaiting clearance on medicals & visa app? I do hope Im not the only one who's been in this boat of confusion.
Thank you Amanda & Danny Leach :)

Leachio, welcome to the forum!!! It is a great source of info, people will be able to help you with everything.

Depending on where you live - depends on how much you pay for medicals. Some panel doctors can charge more than others, again, ask on here for help before you book.

Initially, your EOI (Expression of Interest) costs about £150, then the actual visa application (ITA) will cost another £550, Coupled with your meds/police checks/migrant levy etc. you looking in the region of 1500 quid.

You are in the same boat as us, everything tied up in the house. Good luck on this rollercoaster.

Steve - Liverpool

p.s, post and let us know where you are etc.

hello! welcome to the forums :nice1

don't worry we've all been there on the confused and bemused stage. fab news on the possible transfer though. how old are the little ones?

i can't help on the areas (we're still in the UK and on our way to wellington) but try searching around this forum - there's lots of info on here. also try the NZ immigration service website www.immigration.govt.nz

flights can be reasonable - about £600 one way for an adult. but the whole visa, medicals etc process can be quite expensive.

as for selling the house first. it just depends really. we waited for the visas to come through first but then couldn't sell and have been sat here frustratedly for months. other people sell at once.

good luck anyway - ask away with questions - everyone is pretty helpful round here.

:) Thank you both for the lovely welcome. We live in York and our babies are Jack 3yrs, and Ella Maud 6mths! The thought of raising them by the beach makes me smile! I shouldn't get too excited tho, we havent got the job yet, but everything is crossed! I have looked on the NZIS site and see that there is a practice in York who do medicals but no cost attached. I really don't know what to do bout house, it's not the best season for selling really but without the profit we would have nothing to go with. But I must calm myself and if it's meant to be it will be!

Welcome to the forum Amanda, Danny, Jack and Maud! We have a friend who's a Met police officer and he's kicked the idea of emigrating to NZ around. We're hoping once we get there, they'll come and join us.

We have 3 kids..all fare payers and we spent £12000 getting on NZ soil...take off £7000 FOR THE CONTAINER and the pack up, that leaves you around £5000..you have only 2 kids so say take off another £1000..I guess you will be looking around that figure for all paperwork, migrant levy, medicals and flights. I was a cop in the UK..I am a bit old to do it now..I know a little about NZ policing and where is allegedly easier to live...try to angle for Hamilton. Cheaper houses, less crowds and generally an easier induction into policing IMO! Good luck!!

I have a couple of friends who've moved out here on the police transfer programme.
You need a job offer from RNZP, and then once you have that can apply via the skilled work-stream to get permanent residency.

I currently live in Auckland, but spend a lot of time in the Waikato (which is the area Hamilton is located in).
I love both, for different reasons, so depending on what you want from a place I can let you know the positives and negatives of both locations.

Good luck with your emigration.

Hi Leachio,

Same jobs as yourselves also prefer this forum as it appears more balanced than the other one we look at.

Hi
We're about to go in 3 weeks, we are 2 adults and 2 kids, and this is how much it has cost us:
EOI - £125, Application fee - £525, migrant levy - £420
4 medicals - £350, plus 2 xrays and 2 bloods - £362 (expensive but we live in Cornwall so no choice)
2 x police checks - £20 (perhaps you can get a discount?!)
Air fares 1 way - £682 each adult and £537 per child.
Not a cheap venture, luckily my new employers are going to reimburse me, (as long as I stay for 2 years!!)
We're moving to near Hamilton, I'll let you know what it's like.
