Ok, I swear I had only had one glass of vino, :uhoh but last night at happy hour I seem to have joined Rural Women. http://www.ruralwomen.org/

I only remembered just now when our neighbour called to tell me the subscription cost. There's the annual dinner on Friday, but what happens after that?

It seems to be Canterbury based, I've read their website and think I'll enjoy it.:raebananaBut is it really like the old Women's Institute in the UK?

Is anyone else a member (or a lapsed member, for whatever reason :D)? If so, can you give me the lowdown please?

Can't let you out of my sight for a minute :D

What next - green wellies and waxed jacket????

Enjoy the dinner - and let us know what it turns out to be like.

Hxxx

Sounds v.interesting! Good on you. Did your neighbour -- or does anyone else -- know of (similar) groups for blokes as well as women? We'd be interested.
All the best with it!

Cheers! It'd be good to find out. No worries if the vino beats you to it, though. :laugh

You will be posing nude for calendars next with your bits covered by strategically placed buns! Maybe they use sheep instead being as its rural!

Hope you have fun, and it fits with my philosopy of go along to everything you get invited to, and if you dont like it then you dont have to go back! :cheers

OMG Smiler ... which branch? You know you now live worryingly close to my outlaws. My mother outlaw is an avid member of the Rural Women in Marton.

This would be just too funny !!!!!

Haven't a clue which branch I'm in, but if she's going out to dinner on Friday night, I'll get all the inside goss. :D

I looked down the agenda for next year and the only thing I know anything about at the moment, is a talk in May about Sudden Death. Infact I could probably give the talk!

But I'm hoping I can chat to them about raw milk, chooks, the list is endless right now.

Well I can report a little on the Rural Women annual dinner.

There were 29 women, dinner was ok. Held in a cafe in town owned by the WR president. I'd told them I'm a veggie a week ago and my choice was ................................ roast chicken or lamb. Even the cabbage had bacon in.

Still never one to refuse any food, I managed a large plate of beetroot, salad and cheesey mashed potato. :D Nearly had salad dressing but realised in time it was hot chicken gravy instead. :laugh Phew!

It's a local branch so I meet some more people that live on the main road into town. Before desert we had a speaker who was a story teller. She was from sarf london but now lives in New Plymouth. She did some pieces from Pam Ayres and Victoria Wood and some stuff she'd written herself. She wore the most amazing cape and hat, almost Harry Potter style.

I was happy just sitting with the 2 neighbours, listening to what's what and who's who ;) and chatting to the others.

I've got an invite to the cinema next week and all the inside goss on which shops to go to.

A nice evening all round. I'm lovin' it.
