Hi, my name is Amy and I'm a Kiwi looking to move back to NZ after nine years in the UK.
My partner is having the medical test in a couple weeks before applying for PR on the family stream.
Got to confess that we're a little worried as there is Huntington's in her family and that might be considered a medically no-go area.
But, we went to the expo in York last month and the NZIS staff said that it was very rare to turn someone down on the partnership stream so my fingers are firmly crossed that we'll be ok.
I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and I wanted to thank you all for the invaluable tit-bits I've been picking up.
I may be a Kiwi, but nine years is a long time out of the loop.
I'm particularly grateful for the shipping advice - I came over as a 22 year old with one suitcase and I've somehow amassed soooo much more! Can't think how that happened *cough* shopping *cough*
Thanks again for being such a helpful place! :clap

Hi Amy, from a fellow kiwi. :clap
We'll also be going through the partnership route - not very far along it, having just sent off for the police check.
I'm looking at the pros/cons of shipping/not shipping - have been looking for a while but i've still not decided!
Welcome again :)

Hi Hels and Sal - thanks for the warm welcome :)
I've not got a lot of choice over shipping since the majority of our prized possessions are books. We've decided not to take any of the furniture since it's a mish-mash of what we both had before we got together and I want a new bed anyway!
Our police check went in last week, and meds are on Dec 6 (holiday in Malta for a week before that, so she'd better stay off the grog on the last day hehe)
I've not read any threads on here about the partnership process, so I'm playing it all by ear and hoping we've got enough "supporting" evidence to confirm we've been together two years.

There's a bit on here about the partnership process, but not so much as most are going the "other" route. From what I've gathered, its more the official documentation they're after, joint bank accounts, money being transferred between your accounts, council tax bills etc.
PM me if you're stuck & I'll help with anything I can. Diny's OH is a kiwi, so went this way & she's a mine of information, & like most on here, extremely helpful. :clap
Where are you heading to?

Hi Amy,
Welcome to the forum. What part of NZ did you come from? and will you be moving back to that part?
We got three quotes for shipping and they all came in at almost the same price. We are only taking 2 large items of furniture our bed and dining room table because the cost to ship them over worked out cheaper than having to buy those to items in NZ. Other than that we only taking our personal belongings and we will buy the rest out there.
Good luck with everything.

Invercargill will be our base to start with - I was born there, but grew up in Te Anau - I've been promised at least casual work at my old employer (but knowing how they get through staff, I'm pretty confident I can worm my way back into the fold)
But I can see us being in Dunedin in the long-term as my OH is an academic and won't want to be away from a university town for too long.
After years of all my family being spread around (UK, US, Oz, North Island) we're all getting back to Otago/Southland ... only my sister in Sydney will be "foreign" once I'm back. :D

Hi Amy, Welcome to a really friendly & helpful forum. I have only been a member for a couple of weeks but it has been so helpful so far and like your OH am in the early stages of applying the partnership route. My OH is also a kiwi but has been here for nearly 30 years so he is well out of "the loop". I'm encouraging him to read as much as poss on this site as he seems to think everything is going to be so easy!
I'm having my x rays done tomorrow & medical next Friday. Got police report back last week. So once results of med thru I'm hoping to go on a trip to NZ House in London with me man and all our forms(hopefully completed to their satisfaction) all our evidence of a stable relaitionship (whatever that is?!!!) and then we'll see.
Like you I'm not sure what to ship over. From what I've read here I've got the impression everything is more expensive there than here, so will have to think long and hard. Any advice welcome on that one.
It would appear from last few messages there are a few of us going thru this together. Good luck to all of us! Keep updating your progress, could be interesting.

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome.
If anyone has any questions about southern NZ don't hesitate to ask - I'm probably not as rusty as I think!
I'm expecting to have a lot of questions about shipping, moving etc next year when hopefully we'll have permission for OH to come with me. If they turn us down, then we'll have to stay put in the UK... and I miss my warm Christmas Days too much.
