Im sure this has been asked 1000 times but i have had a search and can't find anything so forgive me for repeating...

We have just submitted our ITA, can anyone give me an outline of what happens now? and crucially how long until we can get on a plane! assuming all goes ok?
Cheers,
Neil.

hi neil

it depends on whether you have a job to go to or not. if you do it could be very quick (a couple of weeks) if not you could be waiting 3 months + to be assigned a case officer.

Hi Trigirl,
we are applying as skilled migrants, 125 points but no job offer. I guess it will be a while before we hear from a case officer, once we get one is it fairly quick from there?
I noticed you are off in a couple of weeks, must be exciting/nervy!

Hi UK Neil

We are in a very similar situation as you. We sent in our ITA mid-October with no job-offer and two weeks later received a letter that stated we would be assigned a case officier within 4 months (hence the current signature).

We had job offer in NZ and submitted early March, and PR was approved mid April (took about 7-8 weeks in all). No problems/queries (I know this can sometimes delay peoples application - e.g. if you do not submit enough evidence etc.).

Hi Neil,

We took our ITA to London yesterday. We have a job offer and was told we should get a case officer in a few days and then the decision should be in a couple of weeks (subject to my liver assessment!!)

Thanks for the replies,

I guess its a case of sit back and wait. Frustrating waiting for a few
months though without hearing anything!

Got to be patient i guess,

Thanks,
Neil

Our cheque has been cashed today, not sure if that is relevant but they have at least opened the envelope!

:) We paid by credit card and got a single envellop about a week later. No correspondence since (about three weeks).

sorry to be so slow replying - everything (including my laptop until about an hour ago!) is packed.

once you get a case officer it does normally happen very quickly assuming everything is ok with your application. you will need to do a telephone interview as you don't have a job. i think we were allocated a case officer, had the interview later the same week and got the decision the following week.

it is very exciting to be finally going. the shippers have been here this morning and i keep looking round at all the boxes (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mandysimpson/303473016/) and i don't know whether to laugh or cry!

thanks for the info Trigirl,

I look forward to being in your situation with excitement and trepidation. I can understand you not knowing whether to laugh or cry I expect there will be a bit of both, very exciting times though, good luck!

Hi UK Neil,

We took our ITA to London on Monday lunchtime. Checked the website Tuesday morning and we had been updated to application lodged (Mondays date). Got a letter this morning with a letter from our newly appointed case officer and a receipt for our payment.

So it seems to be happening pretty quickly at the mo!! (Until liver bit of medical!!)

We have a job offer so it seems they prioritise those first.. The letter said it can take between 1 and 3 months for a decision but I think thats the standard letter.

Good Luck

Dave
