Can you get a good curry in Auckland?

The term "good curry" and anywhere in New Zealand do not exactly go together :D

But I do know where you can get a damn fine Steak in Auckland if it helps :D

Oh Calcutta on Parnell Road isn't too bad. Bolliwood in Ponsonby Road is ok too, and they actually ask if you want the curry "Kiwi hot" or "English hot", which made me laugh... Their saag gosht is pretty yum!
But, the best place I've found is a small takeaway on Dominion Road in Mount Eden, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. I was recommended it by a guy I work with who moved over from Bombay - and it's really good.

Phew...... you were starting to worry me there Avalon (im a veggie as well for my sins!)

I dont need much in life but some things in are essential!

It always surprises me that the curry culture here is as low as it is, there is such a big asian population over here. We have taken to Thai food since being here and some of their food is hot as well as tasty.

We have noticed too that the Kiwis are reluctant to commit themselves to 'hot' but at our local thai place they will make it as hot (or not) as you ask, and their menu has little chillis next to the names to denote how hot it is.

If all else fails then you can buy all the ingredients here, their are lots of asian supermarkets.

I love Thai and you can get some fantastic Thai food over here - which I will eat reasonably hot. But I've never been so fond of Indian and def don't like it hot. Hubby is missing his Indian takeaways (missing his Jalfrezis and Madras's!!). Because of the kids we don't get out to eat often so haven't really done much exploring. We have a restaurant called Indian Summer just up the road from us that is meant to be good. Will let you know when Hubby has tested it!!
