Reading Nicola's post was like reading about our own lives here at the moment - its so strange (and nice) hearing about others doing the same as us.

Yesterday we waved good bye to all our stuff in a container. Its an odd feeling - as many of you already know. We'll be reunited with it all in 9 weeks or so in Wellington.

The process was a bit harder than we expected. The John Masons lads did a great job but were let down by the shipping co who sent us a container dripping wet inside having just been steam cleaned! water was dripping from the ceiling and running down the walls. I was very lucky in that I overheard one of the lads phone into the office to ask them what to do - otherwise i'd probably not have noticed. john masons had said go ahead and load but once i took a look there was no way our stuff was going in it. we sent it away and settled down to wait to hear if they could find us another container the same day or if we'd have to wait till the next day.

they got one to us very quickly in fact - it turned up about 3.30 but by then the light was fading fast and the lads had to work so quickly to get it packed (the whole contents of my house went in that container in under 30 mins!)

Anyway its all gone now. Its Marks last day at work today and then we've got 10 days of seeing friends and family and then we're off! Our house completes on 1st December and we fly on the 4th.

Hi Trigirl

Not long now - best of luck with all your last-minute packing and enjoy the farewell parties!

I'm sure you must have said elsewhere in this forum, but where in Wellington are you going to settle?

Best wishes,

Andrea

hi andrea

we haven't said anywhere because we haven't decided yet! work are putting us up in apartments for a while when we get there. then we'll be looking at suburbs close to work - so anywhere with a no more then 15min bus journey. i like the look of wadestown, wilton, brooklyn, mt vic, newtown, hataitai and kilbirnie. i also like the look of karori but that may be a bit far out. not sure till we get there and take a look. we're pretty flexible on places so will go for a nice house regardless of where it is.

i'm currently spending *lots* of time on trademe!

Hi Trigirl

Good job you heard them about the wet container. I shudder to think how mouldy your stuff would've been after a trip through the tropics! Aren't the packing guys amazing at how fast they work. Won't be long now, good luck with the journey.

thanks everyone. had a very emotional few days saying good bye to everyone. now at the in-laws for 3 days then at the parents for 3 days. its all so soon now.

stupid me managed to crash the car (not badly thankfully) while i was really upset after saying goodbye to all our neighbours. so thats off to the garage to get fixed up while we're at my parents.

its always something as you say and in the whole scheme of things its a minor problem. expensive but minor. it could have been a lot worse and at least no one got hurt.

Unbelievable. I'm so glad you found out and put a stop to it. Imagine how soggy and horribly mildewed all your possessions would have been when they arrived!

I'm glad to hear that you weren't injured in your little prang. Have a safe, uneventful trip!

Jo
