If my OH and I get to NZ on his work permit, do we have to get medicals done as soon as the work permit is issued or will they want to see the medicals before? We will want to apply for PR asap. So will we have to get medicals done again once the PR gets through?

If you are applying for a work visa of more than 12 months then NZIS will require you to submit a medical with the application. If your work visa application is for less than 12 months duration then you won't need a medical.
If you apply for PR within 3 months of submitting the previous medical you won't need to have another one.
