Are there any sites that are out there to help expats find furnished rentals available for 2-3 month stays? I found Quinovic to be basically impossible to work with, and they are only company I found when I was looking from the U.S. Have I missed some websites that someone else found? I know trademe has some, but most seem to be unfurnished which does not work if you are waiting for your container.

Thanks,

Wendy

These are the people who we have got a short term property with. I know its not cheap but there just isn't the quality short term fully furnished property out there which is what we will be providing once we have settled. These properties come with everything. Even toys for the kids. We even have broadband access but we pay for use.

Hi ya

I found a pretty good website (www.nzflatmates.co.nz (http://www.nzflatmates.co.nz/) ) and you can look for flat shares as well as units unoccupied. If you get on to the advanced search you can click what furnishings you want/need.

Also thanks to those above for the other links. I've added them to my favourites already. ;)

Wendy, we have rented unfurnished and hired furniture and stuff from www.dtr.co.nz until our container arrives (which should be the day after tomorrow, hurrah!!).

We also rented unfurnished just bought a mattress and bedding and minimal white goods (fridge) to see us through. Hand washing for 5 weeks is not fun but a must. This way you save on keep paying agents to find you accomodation twice and can get settled straight away. Hiring furniture is a good idea too. If you are lucky some unfurnished have most white goods anyway. Blow up beds are cheap alternative.

although we did view a furnished property through an agent that we would have moved their stuff into a bedroom, once ours arrived, as there was enough room and not that much funiture. Some will take out the furniture.

www.justpropertymanagement.co.nz are our agents in Wellington and they are really good.

Good luck our container got delayed 3 weeks due to customs being off sick so be warned!!

Does anybody know what fees rental agencies typically charge for a fee? If it makes a difference, I'm looking for unfurnished homes. I thought I read somewhere that they charge 1 month's rent. Since I may only rent for 6 months, that fee seems a bit high.

So I'm looking on trademe and flatfinder in the meantime. Is it too early for one of these? :cheers

The majority of rental agents I've used charge a week of rent plus gst (12.5%) as the fee. In addition they usually require three weeks rent as a bond, plus a week of rent in advance.

Real Estate agents may charge a letting fee of one week.

According to one agency i was talking to recently you need to be a registered real estate agent to charge a letting fee.

In wellington there are also companies like WhatsNew that provided fully furnished 1-4 bedroom apartments and townhouses.
