Hiya - the tests were exercise tests including 3x treadmill tests - he's already had his NZIS medical and these are further requested specialist tests. If they'd have said it would take a week to give him feedback/results that would have saved us all a lot of worry, but they'd said they would let parents know by Wednesday... :roll
If it is bad news it's hardly something you'd want an NZIS immigration officer telling you... :no
I believe the tests were carried out at Worthing Hospital and Goring Hall.

Hope you get good news soon.
I have to say my heart sank when I read that that NZIS had wanted a treadmill test. My mum has had this a couple of times in the past and they have always made her very ill. If NZIS want her to have one then I think it would be the end of her chance of getting through the medical. Mr Moorf (Sen), if it's not to personal would you mind PM'ing me and letting me know why NZIS wanted this test. I hope I can offer this as some comfort- My mum has always known at the time of the test that she failed it as the test it's self has made her ill so if you were able to walk out of the test under your own steam things look positive.
Hope you get peace of mind soon. Best wishes. Debbie

Sending Hugs.
I really wish there was something more useful I could offer you. Ive dealt with the waiting (which does seem endless) by getting pushy and hassling people - mostly at NZIS wellington, and not letting them get away with bad service and bone-idleness.
Its been nearly 6 months:( On top of the three years it does feel like theres a never ending uncertainty over the future of our family.
The only thing I can say is: hang in there. You have got this far. And please do be re-assured that you are dealing with an immigration office that does not treat you like dirt. Once you over this hump - you should at least get answers.
Please keep chasing the Doctors. If they said the results would be out days ago, then they should be.

How horribly stressful for you and your family. I can imagine that you're all on tenterhooks with the wait.
Fingers here are firmly crossed that you get the results and good news very soon.
Big hugs to you all.

More waiting:(
Dad has now had his final medical tests (this is now 3 lots).
Its going to be about 3 weeks before he gets the results as teh secretary is on holiday.
He has till the 27th July to get the results back to NZIS, so we should make it by the skin of our teeth. The case office though does seem helpful, so it may be that if there are any hitches - we could get an extension. The trick seems to be to keep them informed as soon as possible of any possible issues. (Which to be honest is the best way to deal with NZIS whatever the visa you are going for as far as Im concerned).
Im hoping that the tests are OK and we dont have to go for a Medical Waiver.
25 weeks since the application went in:wah

Update - the "quick" decision they promised if Dad got his further test results from cardiologist back to them before XX date has now turned in to "two to three weeks until they get back assessment from the medical assessor" :roll
We can only sit/pace/drink and wait....
Hasn't been too much of a lengthy process to date - app went in beginning of March this year, so 4 months so far....

Hi Debbie,
NZIS wanted me to see my cardiologist for general appraisal. It was he who suggested the treadmill test just to pre-empt any request for one from NZIS.
Yes, I managed to walk away from it (a lttle puffed!!) but the rest of the report was positive!
Keeping everything crossed.

Sorry to jump in on your thread with my own question but it is sort of related. My sister-in-law who is a Kiwi(lives in Dunedin) has offered to sponsor me. I'm an independent cuss so want to try it on my own but I was wondering if she could actually do this. Doesn't it have to be a blood relative or partner that sponsors?

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/live/familycategories.htm That's a link that tells which family relationships are eligible to sponsor one another.

But is there not some blood relationship??? Normally I would read SIL as either you have a brother in Dunedin, or your husband is a kiwi. Or is your SIL naturalised rather than kiwi born?

My SIL is kiwi born but my brother was unable to find work in NZ so kept his business in Canada. He spends 6 mos. in Canada and 6 in NZ so doesn't have PR. His business is in a remote area and his wife is ill so it's easier for them that she stays with family in NZ. I emailed NZIS asking if my SIL could sponsor me and the only answer I got were forms for her and me to fill in. Not sure if that's a positive or not.

Current situation is that they have had Medical Assessor reply and that they may be asking for a few more details from Dad's consultant... that's the current state of play... I guess it's good news that MA didn't say no immediately?

We applied the 12thMay and I was told yesterday on the phone to immigration ,that it could take 6/9months to be allocated a case officer .My husbands medical has also been sent to medical accessor but they wont tell us why its with accessor as far as our doctor is concerned there was not any problems with his medical .The only thing we can think of is he is on blood pressure medication but it is under control by our doctor .We applied Auckland, The funny part is they gave us our work permits with those medicals as we applied at the same time for work permits and residency it is a pain all this waiting and the stress it causes .They say parent sponsorship is low on priorities good luck to everyone Angela

Strange - you should already have a Case Officer if the medical has been referred to the Medical Assessor... it's the Case Officer that refers it to the Med Assessor.
Hopefully you'll hear back soon as to what further tests/info is needed, if any. The med's only go to a Med Assessor if the Case Officer is unable to make the decision themselves and needs further clarification afaik.

Makes me wonder if we will ever get my parents in, should they choose to do so.... they are both wrecks! (said in the kindest possible way, of course... :D)

Well, I would say so. Is that what they have said - that they may be asking for a few more details?. Sounds like they could be on the point of making a decision (fingers crossed).

Well that took three days to read all the threads, Like most on here I am looking into sponsoring my inlaws, I leave for NZ next month working in Auckland, My wife is an only child and wants her parents to live with us. They are 59 and 60, both active with no medical problems, I understand the 3 year rule, but the inlaws want to come out before then. Obvioulsy they want to carry on working and not have to return after 6 months but equally not live off there savings, In the UK they are an integral part of the family looking after there only grand daughter, My question is what are the chances of getting a general work visa? They are coming over to Auckland for 3 weeks in december and am wandering if we should turn up at the local office to discuss, I take it from reading the threads its possible but how easy? Any advice would be great as its really our only major issue
many thanks steve

I'm pretty sure your parents need to be under 56 years of age to apply for any type of work visa... although they can work when/if they come under the Family stream (which, of course, you need to wait 3 yrs to do).

I am sure I read the General work visa does not have an age limit, but I may be wrong....

Well, it's taken two whole weeks for the Case Officer to forward on a letter from the Medical Assessor to Dad - and it still hasn't arrived - nor has the email she said she'd send in the meantime with a summary.
But... parents will now have to spend MORE money on MORE tests because the MA can't seem to make his mind up based on what information he's got .... :roll
