After finishing of the first stage of the silly immigration process, I got the ITA recently.
In the checklist of document needed, i have found the following:

De facto: please provide a proof of living in stable conditions with the partner for at least the last 12 months!

What they need in addition to marriage certificate??
Anybody can help in this regard?

Hi bpk,

I think they want proof of living together, ie. photographs, utility bills, bank account statements, etc - anything official that will show that you've been living together...

I think the 2 kids we had are stronger than any photos or bills!!!

Would they fit in the post box? :D

TBH, I'm not sure having two kids together in this day and age represents a solid partnership.... - I think NZIS prefer a paper trail!

hmmmm......I will think about it.
But I think it is toooooo stupid to ask about such a thing!
Me and my wife are living together...came together to NZ with kids...have WTR visa together with kids...

And the immigration office knows all of that...
So why asking for such a supid thing which I have never been asked before???

I am wondering if they need to know what we have had at breakfast this morning, or at lunch last week end?

bpk,
In my experience the term De facto is used to refer to same sex couples who prehapes wouldn't have a marage certificate.

When my OH and I applied we used an agent and were told to give our marriage certificate (as we have one) and two bank statements from our joint a/c, one from 12mths ago and one recent and a utility bill showing both names at the same address. The thing that NZIS are try to prove is that your relationship is still solid and you are still together. A reflection on modern times!

De Facto refers both to same and opposite sex couples who aren't married/in a civil union.

And yes, they're looking for evidence like bank statements, photos, joint insurance... Search the forums for partnership and you'll find plenty of example lists.

It may seem silly to you, because you know that you are in a real marriage. But in the U.S., there is an incredible amount of marriage fraud that takes place in order to get people residency / citizenship, and I am sure it is the same for New Zealand.

I had a female friend who was married for 6 years to one of her best friends, a guy who was gay, and lived in another state. But he worked for an airline, and she got steep discounts on airline travel because she was an employee's "spouse".

That's why NZIS wants to see proof that you have a legitimate marriage.

Hi bpk,
I know it sounds silly, but as has been said already it's just their way of preventing fraud. We are not married, but submitted our children's birth certificates, utility bills and bank statements. They were fine with this. I think it's just part of the box ticking process....send what they need and they will be fine with it. Your children's birth certificates will be fine, throw in a couple of bills and bank statements also that show you lived at the same address and have shared finances in some way (having children together doesn't prove you live together....you could have been separated for years, just 'pretending' you are together to slyly creep into NZ....sounds daft, but it's possible!!!)

Nearly there eh!!! Just a few more questions and bits of paper to find and that ITA will be a distant memory!
