Hi

I have looked high and low (and I know there are a few companies suggested on the site) for recommended removal companies based in Somerset and beyond.

As we are going to wing it (as they say) and go over to NZ in about 3 months time, we have decided to store our house stuff for about 6 months in the Uk until we know for sure we are definatly staying in NZ (want to keep everything/ inc cash, in the UK until we know for sure - not really wanting to go over and then come back in 6 months and pay shipping twice) :wah

Do you have any suggestions of shipping companies, or do you think we are being wise/mad? :laugh :confused:

Hi Toby & Lisa

We moved from Plymouth and used Blatchfords International (not to be confused with another Blatchfords National in the same area). They were based in Exeter and were really competative with their quote as well as letting us have 2 months free storage in the UK (after we'd agreed on a price!).

They were also completely unfazed when, after they'd packed up all our stuff and put it into storage we changed our minds and swopped from a delivery address in the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South!!!.

We looked at Allied but they quoted the same price for us having to share a container as others quoted for our own container?! PSS didn't really want to know about us as we were so far away from London and a local company in Plymouth just wasn't competative at all.

I'd definately recommend Blatchfords, only one thing got damaged on the way over (our microwave was shattered) but the insurance came through without any issues and within 2 months.

We live in Wellington and have been recommended Mark Chudleigh from Chard. We have also had Whites and Britannia Lanes who have given very different quotes £500 difference.

We are in the throws of moving to Christchurch and our home is being shipped out on the 12th December. :exit
We are using Mark Chudley from Chard. He was recommended to us by a couple of friends who have moved out this summer. We decided not to get any other quotes as we were happy with the recommendations and also Mark used to live in our village and he has been really helpful. Our friends who moved to the South Island said that the company was very good and professional. From what we have found so far they seem to know what they are talking about! We have rung a couple of times with silly questions and they have been very patient and helpful.
Not sure how they compare price wise with any others though but we did not think they were that expensive seeing as it's got to go to the other side of the world :laugh
