Hello everyone,
Just a quick introduction my name's Andy, my wife Kerry and our son Freddie (14 Mths) currently live in Milton Keynes (UK) but our EOI will be going in very soon.
Visited NZ a couple of years ago and loved it, came home with the intention of moving but due to unforseen circumstances it never happened. Now Freddies here we want to move for his sake as I dread to think what this place will be like in years to come.
We havn't decided where we want to live yet but will probably be decided with what work I can get (Currently a Mechanical Repair Engineer, Ex Royal Air Force Aircraft (Airframes) Engineer), Though we have been looking at either Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch (and all in between!).
Been lurking here for a few weeks now and have found it a very useful place to find good balanced information and you all seem a pretty nice bunch too :)
Anyway better sign off now as I'm supposed to be working :wah
Cheers for now
Andy

Hello and welcome....
You will be glad to know there are not as many roundabouts here as you are used to!
Have a search for posts by Howie, he works in the aircraft engineering field, but it may be totally different to what you do.

Welcome to our world and to the land of real COWS. OH how i miss MK. Use to run down to the Daimler factory just off the M1 for TNT logistics. Aghh well enough of those memories.
If your looking at Hamilton then give me a shout as we are only 20 min drive from there in TA, and if your looking for area's then i just might be able to direct you.

I have to say I always thought they were on a roundabout before I moooved here, but they are in an nice park area and can be seen from the road, the thing that amazed me when I first saw them is that they don't look much like cows, rather some fat dogs! And they are nothing compared to things you see on the side of the road in NZ.
We shall be visiting them soon (they are only a short walk away) to take pictures of Freddie on them, just incase our application to moove to NZ is a success.
Cheers for now (Back to work again :wah )

Nobody I've met in Christchurch has said they can't get into the countryside. Everyone I know gets out and about regularly.
We get into the countryside most weekends. We point the car in the right direction and drive.
Just for the record, we love living in west Chch and most people from the UK I've met love it too. :nice1

Hi all and welcome to this very friendly forum. I don't know what I would of done without it. Speaking of concrete cows...we have just come back from Rhodes and we visited the Faliraki Water Park. They had lots of concrete cows there, painted in a variety of patterns. I bet the cows in MK aren't painted!

you try walking where there are no public footpaths; plenty of barbed wire and unmapped wilderness. there is countryside out there it's surprisingly difficult to get into so much of it esp. when you consider there's the same population ratio as Elizabethan England. also we found we had to travel quite a distance to get somwhere interesting other than the Port hills. We went with a tramping club too and they were aprt of a campaign to wrest more of the land from the controil of these large dairy farmers and give more access. walking over here is def. more challenging than in england. that's what i mean about "getting" in to the countryside

as an ex milton keynes resident, i can say that there's a lot to be glad to see the back of. the schools and libraries here are better; the shops aren't (if you like shopping) and the pubs are worse. however, it feels more like mk when i first went there in 1987: more hopeful, less traffic and people. I do wish it was easier and safer to go out to the countryside (on one's own)than in the aylesbury vale. don't miss london though. unfortunately, you don't fully appreciate soemthing till you've left a place. feels safer here too and to quote the cliche 'a better palce for kids'. would advise you not to sell your house if poss. so there's always a lifeline and not to make your mind until you've been here and then gone back for a visit. No it will be a good move to get away from MK. It's definitely lost its way since 1987 and the public transport here is embarassingly superior. If you need any info please ask
