So delighted to find this site. We have just received a job offer in Auckland on a 2-year contract and are frantically trying to find as much information on New Zealand as we can. We currently live in Carnoustie, Scotland and although we have spent a few years in other European countries, this is just a bit more scary! Lots of questions to find answers to - schooling for a 12 and 16 year old, best areas to live in Auckland...... We'll probably spend the next few days reading through all the postings. Any advice gratefully received.

Hey guys, welcome to the forums. Don't be afraid of using the search button, but if you can't find what you're looking for, don't hesitate to ask a question.
I came to NZ on a two year (20 month) visa. It's a great way to quickly get in, but then once you're here if you want to stay you can apply for permanent residency....

Hello and welcome - the road may be long and bumpy and you may have a few hiccups along the way but its worth it in the end, and if you have to fight a bit harder for it then it makes the result seem even sweeter!!!!
Good luck on your journey! :nice1

Hi there,
Is there an area of Auckland you're considering - north, south, east, west? Where is the job - it might help you pick an area....
Schools naturally follow on from where you decide to live. Should you live fairly close to the CBD you could look at the Grammar schools in the surrounding areas and there are also some good religious schools if that's your bag.
Oh .. and WELCOME!!

Hi Dawn,
We are still 'negotiating' on our work contract so not 100% sure yet about exact dates/details. I think that it will probably be the business district. We were looking at the schools in Auckland and my kids were horrified at the school uniforms :laugh Perhaps when we have more concrete details you could give us your input into Auckland districts/schools?

Hi,
I bet you're not missing the Edinburgh weather as we spent last weekend there at the Christmas market and Zoo - poured with rain all weekend! Will certainly give you a shout when we have more detailed info about our move (currently negotiating contracts so may be some time!).

Just wait till you find out how much they cost .. you'll be the one that's horrified :laugh I just spent $1,000 on Saturday kitting out my daughter for Yr 7 and there will be more to buy come winter-time.
With jobs in the CBD the world is your oyster .. there are so many nice areas to settle, your difficulty will be in deciding on just one.
