Sorry for being a nosy parker but I'm discovering that it's great how I can ask the sort of questions here that face to face some people would think were a bit forward. :o

So, if you don't mind, what sort of car(s) have you bought in New Zealand?

What did it/they cost?

Roughly how much does it/they cost to run it?

Thanks

Lots of posh people on here :p like many Kiwi's we drive 1996 Toyota's! (an Estima people carrier which does 30mpg and a Cynos which does 50mpg) - which in total cost us just over $10k... WoF's/Servicing etc is approx another $1k a year for both.

...and to think in the UK I used to loose more than $10k a year on depreciation alone on my cars!

About two months ago, we bought a 1997 Mazda Demio with 85K kilometers for $5000. Costs about 40 to fill up and gets about 350km to a tank.

It costs about $65 to fill up and a whole tank usually runs for about 500kms

We Have a 1998 Honda CRV, cost 10,000, 50 to fill up, great car!! Hubby has a 1999 BMW 318 cost 13,000, similar to fill up, again great car!!! Never would have believed we would have such old cars, but really low km's and in really good condition, obviously don't get as much use as in UK.

I have a Toyota Prado 4x4 cost 20k 12 months ago and could be selling it for 24k over the coming weeks. This car is holding its value due to the Russian market allowing more imports from Japan, so they are picking up all the 4x4's. Wife has just got rid of Honda CRV( 10k 12 months ago) and has bought a Mazda MPV.

Westies, be careful as the wife got rid of her's(CRV) as they are prone to leak water. She woke up the other week to find her drivers well had around 3-4mm of water in it.

I have a 1996 Mitsubishi Magna wagon which I bought for my parents to use when they come over to visit from a friend's elderly mother for $2k. With 6 months WOF and a years rego, and it has really low kms, so absolute bargain! Costs about $70 to fill up and does roughly 500km to the tank.
I have a very large, scruffy Toyota Hilux Surf, which I adore as I can go anywhere in this beast. I think it cost me $8k, but this was about 3 years ago. Fuel costs and kms are about the same as the Mitsi.
I don't actually drive that much - I use either the bus or train to commute to work, and walk most places in the city. I need a car at weekends though to go down to the Waikato - or to the west coast beaches after work with my board.

I have a Honda Odyssey, 1995 with a few months WOF and a few months registration. The first car I saw I bought. Paid $4600 for it. Well happy and it does loads of miles for little amounts of money.

1994 Toyota Corona nicknamed "the Stig" - bought for $3000 and sold for $3000 six months later when I had to come back to the UK. Best car I've ever owned and I used to have a new Audi. Sad to see it go :-(

We've got two. A Honda Odyssey and a Toyota Caldina.
Love 'em both for different reasons - the Hoda is great to pile the kids in - put the seats down and you can move almost anything in it. We moved my office desk from school today in it! The Caldina is our 2nd car - more for hubby and my oldest son to drive - so it needed to look more like a blokes' car than a girlie one. It is very economical.
They both cost about $75 to fill - the Caldina was around $8000 I think - had the Odyssey for years - can't remember what we paid for it.

woohoo you are mobile!

I would meet you at Porirua market this weekend - but we are off to see Smiler on Friday night.
Maybe next time.

If you go to the farmers market at Moore Wilsons - try the Artisan breads and the Turkish delight is amazing!!!! loads and loads of free samples to try there.

We are picking up a Honda Oddysey (9700 NZD 1999 57K ) when we get to NZ on 1/1/7, it was imported from Japan , MAFed etc, it maybe was a dodgy thing to do in a new country before we even get there, but hey ho, here we go ! I had the European equivalent Honda Shuttle and it was great to drive, the journeys seemed to pass much quicker in it , hopefully the new one will be the same. The import agent was excellent btw , http://www.vehicleimport.co.nz/cgi-bin/cars.cgi
