Hi all,

Very much enjoying the forum and all you helpfull members :nice1

We are hopefully gonna get thru EOI this wk, praying! next we will recieve our ITA but i see from diff threads that they seem to take a few wks/mths to return. Can you advise what info they require, why it takes so long (obviously everyone works at their own pace, we intend to be speedy). Is it the medical reports that take time to come from Doc, or what?

Thanks, keep up the fantastic advice!!

Hi Amanda and Danny.
There are various thread on here about what info will support your ITA so worth a search on 'ITA' and 'evidence' or similar - but i think one of the best ways to do this is to look through each EOI question and think 'how would i prove that'?
Police checks take 40 days in the UK - they remain valid for 6 months.
You will need FULL birth certificates (with mother and fathers name on) and, if you don't have these already, you can order them by internet (go onto births and deaths registry for your local authority where you were born - PM Smiler if you need this info as she used to work in registry)
Medicals can be done by immigration appointed doctors (see medical threads for info or look on NZIS website) - medical is valid for 3 months so do these just before you submit your ITA.
other documents include
Identity: birth certs, passports
Qualifications: certificates, transcripts (e.g. of degree course)
Work experience and skills : job offer letters, contracts, job description, reference from employer stating where you worked, what you did, how long for, hours per week etc. You will need payslips/tax record if you don't have the previous documents.
English language: Test score certificates or evidence you have studied course in English (use course certificates) or self statement stating you have always lived in English speaking country etc.
Evidence of partnership: joint bank acct statements, household bills with both names on, tenancy agreement/house deeds/mortgage statement, kids full birth certs (with parents names on), or other evidence that proves you've lived together for a year or more (marriage cert alone doesn't prove this!)

Cant think of any more, and need to take my son swimming now....but keep gathering info and always worth sending more than you need...try and send official evidence where you can (e.g. bank statements rather than photos to prove relationship). And be creative, or ask for advice on the forum if you think you have some info lacking

good luck, hannah

Hey congrats on your progress! For me, the police checks were the most time consuming (still are). If you only have one country to worry about (I have three), then that should be straightforward for you. The second most painful for me is/was getting the paperwork together proving my work experience. That is, getting descriptions of duties, and hours worked etc. I'm leaving medicals until last since the police checks from various countries can take a long time, and medicals are only valid for 3 months. Last time I did them, the medicals only took about a week to get sorted (once you had your appointments made).

I'm sure many other will have more caveats to post. I'm still collecting pieces for the ITA. I wish I had done more before receiving the ITA.

I think it took me about 3-4 weeks to go from EOI submitted to 'decision successful'. Three or four days later, they couriered the ITA over. If I recall correctly, they told me the average wait from EOI selected to ITA was 6-8 weeks, but they said it all depends.

Best of luck gathering everything!

You can log onto the immigration site to check whether you have been selected from the pool. As soon as you know you have been, bang off the Police Checks. This was the longest lead item for us (although less than the stated time).

XRays took a long time (at the hospital) but it was a pitch up and wait, rather than book ahead, but pay and take XRays with you on the day.

Medicals took a few hours and the results were through the next day (or may have been 2 or 3). You are paying for this service (quite a lot as well) so don't expect or accept NHS service (no offence to those working in the NHS, as a fellow govt employee I know the dire constraints you are forced to work under). This included blood tests. Had to book about 1 to 2 weeks in advance.

Solicitors for signatures (you may have access to JP etc, we didn't) was half an hour, the photocopying took longer.

It still took just over a month to get everything together, I don't think we could have shortened that time much.

Hope this helps!

On the NZIS site: a police certificate less than 6 months old for each applicant aged 17-years and over for each country of citizenship and each country in which they have lived for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.

We just went into the local station, asked for the form and took it back in the next day with the ID. With some forces you can apply for the check online, or so I hear.

You can apply online for your police check in the UK via the Essex Police website. Or youc an just go to your local station and complete the form there. It costs 10 pounds per person.
There is a maximum time of 40 days from the time of application to return the info to you (this is based on the data protection act).

We did not need any sort of authority to request a police check. I seem to remember reading something about freedom of information regulations mean that we are all allowed to view our own records.
