I don't know much as I haven't been in Auckland for a while - but I do know it's Mount Roskill
Here's the wikipedia page

Hopefully a few of the Aucklanders on here can give you a better idea on the living and practical stuff - but congrats on the job offer!

Hi,
We're not in Mt Roskill, but not too far away in Royal Oak/Onehunga. I would say it's not the best area in Auckland and has quite a high proportion of Island folk. BUT you don't have to live and work in the same area! There are some GREAT areas in the south of Auckland City and we would not be anywhere else than where we are :) Its just got that "settled" feel unlike some areas :)
I would never rule out a job because their office is not in the "best" area!

Yup, I agree ..
You may well not want to settle in Mount Roskill (although I don't know it that well and can't really comment on it) but the suburbs here are really close together and you could definitely have a very small commute (like 15 mins) from a surrounding suburb. Bear in mind that a lot of small companies set up in the slighly cheaper areas to save on rent costs.
Have a look at Epsom, One Tree Hill, Blockhouse Bay (I'm sure someone on here lives in Blockhouse Bay.
Great news about the job offer.

Hi
I don't live at Blockhouse Bay..I live a little further out, just beyond Titirangi. Blockhouse Bay has some lovely areas, also parts of Lynfield. This neighbours Blockhouse Bay. Living in these areas would be fine. There are some great schools around here too. I agree with Dawn... One Tree Hill would be fine along with Mt Albert even Royal Oak. From any of these suburbs it is rather easy to get into the Mt Roskill.
Congratulations on the job offer :clap
