OK, I know this is an area on the forum to ask about locations in NZ and I'm more than happy to offer info about Welly :D :D However, as many of you know I will be returning to the UK next year and due to employment reasons/change of scenery etc we will be moving to Exeter. If anybody lives/has lived there or knows the area well would it be possible to send me a PM with any info about good areas to live with a young family and areas to avoid.

Thank you very much

Louise :)

when i worked in exeter two yrs ago i lived outside in okehampton about 30 mins drive and it was very nice to be out of the city and in a reasonable size town. Honiton is also ok about the same distance outside teh other end of exeter. there was rumours of congestion charging in exeter a yr or so ago dont know if they have done it yet. hope this helps

Excellent! Thank you for your reply Stephen and Julie - I will be sending a pm to you both later when the little ones are in bed.

Settersred - I must apologise as I have only just read your post so I'll pm later if you don't mind.

Hi Spudulike,
I lived in Cullompton but worked for Devon County Council in Exeter. Cullompton was a great little town right next to the M5 with easy access to some lovely Devon countryside and Exeter only 10 mins away, if you did not want to travel on the motorway every day then you could use the B road, again the journey to town took no more than 15 mins. Cullompton has some good schools and plenty of shops, pubs and a great fish a chip shop (Ian’s)

…..Mmmmmmmm Fish & Chips!!!!

Thanks Colin, I'll certainly have a look at the area - particularly if the school's are good. I'll be in and out of Exeter to Uni for part of the year so 10 mins sounds pretty good to me :)

I'll look forward to decent fish and chips too - the fush n chups here just don't do it for me I'm afraid.....

Thanks for the info

Louise

We are hoping to move back to the area ourselves, my daughter stayed behind in Exeter so it would be nice to be close to her.
I have applied for work with the DCC again so watch this space...

Thanks Colin - some amazing photos!! It makes me quite excited about going back home, I really miss the architecture.

Good luck with the job application. When are you due to return? You must be so looking forward to seeing your daughter!! We leave NZ on May 16th and are having 5 days in Melbourne and 3 days in Hong Kong on the way - we will arrive home on the 23rd May. Not looking forward to the flights much with two children under 3 but hey ho....

Thank you so much for the links.

Louise

I must admit that we are looking forward to it. As yet we have not made any travel plans I'll wait until I get a job before we'll go back. Hoping to see something of OZ & Hong Kong ourselves....well you have to after coming all this way!
Your very welcome for the links if I can be of any other assistance please get in touch :nice1

Exeter was my uni town (great uni, lovely campus but also really close to the city centre). I'll be considering moving there if we go back. Vibrant, some lovely architecture (some awful buildings too! Unless Sidwell St has been knocked down) and fairly laid back. Much prefer the North Devon coast to the south but you can get to the sea, and Dartmoor is not far away if you like open space...
