My husband and I are planning to move by next July/August. We are both Canadian (living in British Columbia) and I have dual Australian/Canadian citizenship. I am pretty sure that he is unable to apply for PR until I am living in New Zealand. My question is whether anybody knows if it is cheaper for him to just go over on a visitor's visa then apply for PR once we land (assuming he is allowed to work once granted PR?) or if we should spend the money in advance and apply for a work visa based on partnership before we leave, then still apply for PR upon our arrival?
Does anybody know how long it might take for him to be granted PR once we land in NZ? Because I am Australian and not currently living in NZ, he is not able to apply until NZ is my current residence.
I guess the only advantage would be that he may be able to find some work before we arrive if he already had a work visa...just not sure if we should spend the extra money if he can get PR pretty quickly upon our arrival.
Hope this isn't too confusing!
Thanks.
