Hi,

My wife and I are moving to New Plymouth shortly with my work and will need a car.

We've been given a very generous car allowance by my work (a lot more than what I got in the UK) but we've no idea what leasing a car is like over there?

We wanted a nice main car (I need to take clients out in) and may buy a run around as well at a later date.

Questions:

When you lease a car, how long are the agreements or can you 'hand it back' at any time?

Do you need a down payment or anything or is it just monthly payments?

Are there any hidden payments to give you a surprise? :(

We've been given NZ$2,000 a month - what will this get us? Any ideas?

Like I say, we will buy a cheap run about at later date, we just needed a decent semi posh car for my work etc.

Don't like mentioning money, but kind of need to know!

Cheers for your help,

Hugo.

I know there were a couple of companies I saw in Wellington that supplied special rates if you worked for a certain bank. I don't know if you can haggle either for a long term lease car here, but worth a try.

I've looked for prices but they seem to ask for email enquiries, have a look here
