Where do you live in Auckland?

So many people look to this forum ask where is a good area to settle in Auckland and it is such a difficult thing to answer as we probably all like where we have chosen to live - so how about posting just a few details on our own area - house prices, good schools, transport maybe? At least then it gives them a start ..

MEADOWBANK

Average 3 bed house price - £500K
Good Primary schools - Meadowbank, Mt Carmel (RC),
Good Intermediate schools - Remuera Intermediate
Good Secondary schools - Baradene (RC) and Sacred Heart (RC)

7/10 mins drive to beach at Mission Bay
Nice quiet family and retiree neighbourhood, well located to get into CBD by Bus or Train, not as expensive as next door Remuera.

Waiheke was nice - even in the winter, only realistically feasible if you work in the CBD though and factor in the $300 pcm ferry pass.

Rent was $300 pw - 4 beds seaview two garages 1/2 acre. 3 mins to the ferry.

I must learn to answer people's questions, shouldn't I! *:)

Milford has a lovely main shopping street including two supermarkets, two greengrocers, butchers, a couple of baby shops, chemists, printers, numerous restaurants, etc. In fact I think there are all the shops you need apart from a fishmongers (and maybe because I haven't found it yet). Takapuna is just a 5 minute bus/car journey down the road, and has even more shops and restaurants, as well as a cinema.

Westlake Girls and Boys schools are supposed to be very good, and there a number of primary and intermediate schools as well.

There are a couple of buses which go direct to the CBD combined give you a bus every 15 mins duiung the week. The journey takes about 25-35 mins.

We start living there this weekend. Perhaps we are biased as we are planning to try living without a car and where we will be living we will be able to walk to the shops, and I will be able to walk to work. *:)

A Very Important consideration - not only in saving travel money but more importantly Your time that you reclaim from commuting.

If it has one disadvantage it is that the very short commute (ie just around the corner) to work means no time to switch on in the morning and off on the way home at night. The morning I could skip but I did enjoy and miss that Steiny in the company of the regular commuters on the way home on the ferry every night.
