Not the most interesting post, but might save you a few dollars! Popped into Auckland by the Viaduct today and totally forgot where Babette suggested we park and was charged a ridiculous amount.
It was:
Parking after the Hilton barriers: $5.50 per half hour
Parking just before Hilton barriers: $4 per half hour, but with $15 for all day (weekend rate - pay & display).
We thought the last rate applied to the whole area, and didn't find out till leaving and we were charged full price. The moral - if you're going to park by the Hilton - don't go past the barriers!
Luckily the kids had been acting up, so we didn't stay out as long as we'd first planned.
Please let me know if you've found cheaper central places to park
Cheers

You can park at the Atrium (off queen st by the bungy) and I think thats $5 all day on a sat... or at Sky City, if you get a parking ticket validated it cost $5 as well.
City centre parking is always a big rip off wherever you go!

Just spent all day at the Uni on Short Street - Parking New Zealand or Wilson up there is $6 for the full day on Sat - bit of a walk, but better than $15 for the day :nice1

Hi Tia
We parked in the huge multistory carpark behind the Copthorne hotel (access from Quay Street, follow to end turn left alongside the hotel into the 'Carpark only lane') - it was $5 for the whole day on Sunday (not sure about other days) and has direct internal access to the Wesfield shopping plaza.

I normally park at Skycity and pinch my sisters card for there (she's been to the casino a few times and earned points somehow and has about 26 free parks on her card at the moment). However, I forgot the card one day and it cost me a bomb for just a couple of hours. More than the meal I'd just eaten!! OUCH.

we parked (with the Disability card shown on dashboard) outside the Lenin restaurant down by the Hilton last saturday - put $5 in the meter and that got us 35 minutes....came back 20 minutes after that and there was a ticket of $45 !!! :no
I sent an email to the authorities shortly after as supposedly disability permit holders are entitled to double time.....to no avail - the response i received was that Wilson Parking have their own rules and that payment is still required - and that parking wardens do provide a grace period. Yeah right - maybe 10 seconds!! The ticket was written 16 minutes after time expired.
Lesson learnt and Not going there again
