Hi,

When you book and then go for your medical, do they send you home with all the results (everything your need for the ITA).

It's all a timing issue, I'm still trying to lose weight (don't want the high BMI to cause any problems), but have a deadline for the ITA to be returned.

I've searched the forums but can't find an answer to this.
I'll be going the the panel doctor in Taunton, Somerset. I don't know whether that also makes a difference.

Any advise would be appreciated, many thanks,

Ali

ours sent us home with most of the results but the blood tests had to go off to be done and they took about a week or so. other places could well take longer - don't take huge risks to get yourself under the BMI and risk going over time. its only a few more blood tests and if you are healthy they wont cause any problem.

by the way there is a waist measurement as well as a BMI one - you probably already know that but just in case you didn't....

Thank's Trigirl for that super quick response. I'm pretty sure that I'm fit in all other departments, so I will book the medicals up sooner rather than later.
I did just discover that they would be taking "dimensions " as well. That would probably be another worry. I swim 4 times a week, but I really will have to get back to the gym!!!!

Exactly how strict are they with the BMI?
You got me worried

My BMI was over and I had to go back and have another blood test then drink a cup of tea with tonnes of sugar in it and a couple more blood tests after a hour or two . It must have been ok as I'm here now !!

they are quite strict about BMI and waist size but it just means extra blood tests - it doesn't mean you fail the medical.

Oh dear, we both have overweight BMI's and my waist measurement is suspect depending on where they measure it. I suppose we have to pay for the extra blood tests?

BMI = Body mass index. See here to explain it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index

Hope this helps

Body Mass Index

It's basically a height versus weight scale. You can work it out for yourself. Just type 'BMI' into Google and check the chart scale or check this link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/healthy_living/your_weight/bmiimperial_index.shtml

35 or below is fine for NZ. Anything above (even 0.1) will require extra blood tests at extra cost.

Hope it helps..

Our medicals took 2 weeks. The main physical was done on the day along with the xray and the bloods but we had to wait until the radiologist looked over the xrays and the blood results came back. Everything then went back to the original doctor who signed it all off and we got it back. Hope that helps.

Hi there, we had our medicals etc. back in November (so very recently). My BMI is well over the 35 and all that I was required to do was fast the night before I went and have extra blood tests. Everything was absolutely fine. It did cost slightly more, but not much. Our bloods were sent off to London and were received back within 3-4 days.

Making the appointment is the thing that took time - we had to wait 3-4 weeks. (3 weeks for xrays/4 weeks for meds).
