Just realised that I have posted in the wrong section yesterday.

Watched the news that the Overlander had been refurbished and will be running 7 days a week throughout the summer.

We are planning take the Overlander to Wellington during the Good Friday and Easter holidays next year. It will be a week trip. Since the timing is during the public holidays, we think it might be better to book the train tickets, rented car and B&B way in advance.

We would like to know of any "must see" places and good B&Bs.

Appreciate your info
:cheers

Not sure about B&Bs but probably best to book in advance as its a holiday weekend.
We love going to Tepapa. The veiws from the wind turbine are terrific on a clear day, the veiws from the top of MT Victoria are good at night when the whole city is lit up.
My kids (16 &19-mad) love the Bungy at the top of Courtenay place, not to mention the countless bars, resturants etc,
Hope you have a great time when you get here
Brian and Jan :nice1

B&B's (depends if you've got kids or not but if there's just 2 of you then Frinton by the Sea is great - in Eastbourne - but there are plenty of B&B's a bit closer to the city if you would like - you can catch the Dominion Ferry over to Eastbourne from outside the Loaded Hog (v. nice on a sunny day for a beer!!).

I'm assuming you won't have a hire-car if you're travelling here by train - I second what everyone else says about Te Papa - well worth a visit. I'd also recommend either taking the seal coast safari (if its the right time of year) to see the seals - or taking one of the Wellington Rover trips - you'll get to see a heck of a lot of places you would normally miss if you don't have a car.

Also Botanic gardens are nice - the iconic Welly cable car ride - well worth the beautiful views at the top & quite cheap.

Definitely check out some bars/cafes/restaurants - loads of good ones!

If you're into art there's all sorts of galleries etc.

A walk along the boardwalk at Welly harbour - v. nice!!

Enjoy your trip!!

We will be bringing the Navman GPS and put it on the rented car - we have done this when we were in Queenstown one year ago and it works brilliant :nice1

Hope to see more places and meet up with some forum members.

Please keep the tips coming :clap

If you're renting a car - definintely drive round the bays from Island Bay back to the city round the waterfront - stop in at the Chocolate Fish Cafe on Scorching Bay for brunch (v. nice!!). Also drive up Mt Vic - fabulous views of Welly.

If you have time Staglands out at Akatarawa, Upper Hutt. Fantastic wildlife park that adults as well as kids enjoy.

Makara (I think) Beach on the West coast, stony beach but the walk around the coast line is fantastic.

If you manage to make it over the hill to the Wairarapa, definitely Martinborough and all it's fab vineyards. Highly recomment Murdoch James and Alana for food (and wine) :)
